    1. think of the others in the Deaf community and the viral videos that won't be made about them.

It's important to reflect and not just be happy for the person in the video, but to remember the deaf community and what they go through.

    2. so that they can get used to all kinds of new, but common noises, like water coming out of the faucet or wind hitting a window.

It is not just an instant fix when someone get's the implant. Sense they haven't heard before, it takes time to adjust to the changes, learn how to hear, how to speak, and how to interact in the world. There is oftentimes therapy to help with the new changes in their life. Relationships and interacting with people is also different. This is another thing they have to adjust to. It's not a quick fast fix to all their problems. It oftentimes takes time.

    3. What bothers me are the maudlin videos produced out of someone’s intense, private moment that are then taken out of context and broadcast around the world. What bothers me is how the viewer never learns how the individual came to the decision about their implant, which factors they took into account, whether their medical insurance covered it.

This statement is very important because it gives us the bigger picture. The videos are private and being projected to the world when there is a story behind it, is giving people the wrong idea or picture. The important story of how someone made the decision, why they did, and all the options they weighed in their life with getting it or not is what means something. People don't even know the name of the person and that's sad because they just see what's happening and nothing beyond that, no depth.

    4. Cochlear implants primarily work in one of two situations

This is important to note that the cochlear implant is not the "fix" to not being able to hear. It only works in two situations and not for everyone. So the videos when someone get's it and can hear isn't always positively received by some deaf people. It isn't fixing a person. Society tries so hard to paint the picture that there is something wrong with you if you are deaf and that impacts deaf people. Deaf people have feelings and they don't want to be looked down upon.

    5. problematic narratives in the history of the Deaf community: that deaf people are broken and therefore need to be "fixed." In reality, there's no such thing as a happily-ever-after.

From watching the video and reading this, I am able to have such a better understanding of deaf people and their thoughts and feelings. Society tries to make deaf out to be a horrible thing, because there is a disadvantage when you are deaf. There is a disadvantage to not being able to hear, but this doesn't mean these people are lesser than us. Some deaf people are very smart. Deaf people also can communicate with sign language very well.

    6. . [Note: writing Deaf with a capital D separates people who can't hear from people who consider deafness a major part of their cultural and political identity.]

I knew that there were deaf people and it impacted their life, but I learned from the video that Deaf people see this as their identity and there is Deaf culture. The Deaf culture resonate with people like themselves and it makes it easier to communicate.

    7.  but few looked past the highly emotional moment to explore the scientific explanation behind it, or to explore the question what it's truly like to be deaf.

I think this is a very important statement where we begin to understand what this article is truly about. I think a lot of people can get caught up in emotional videos and shed a tear themselves. It is very important to think about deeper things rather to just see what's on the surface. It is important to develop moving ideas and thoughts from watching such as how the woman was able to hear again. What led to this outcome? Also we need to explore deeper and dive into the world of thinking about what it's like to be deaf, and how that person has, had to experience the world as well as how they adapt to the new change. These thoughts are important in understanding the situation and trying to understand the individuals journey.
