    1. The 4th Branch

Much of the song describes the acts that the fourth branch has taken and their rise above the other 3 branches of government making them a powerful influence among the population, in which the impact that have on the people is described throughout different acts and opinions in this specific example of the Iraq War and the protest towards it.

    2. Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin'The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason

The idea that a word, that the American people has based this country and every war we have aided in, is just a word is made to have an impact that maybe we have lost what a democracy is. If we are living in our "democracy" than have we become blind as this "average citizen" to live our lives sufficiently that we forget about the people who don't live in the luxury that we are. If democracy is just a word than it has become worthless and we have become transparent to it.

    3. It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brainSuggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change

I.T. in this line describes the two reactions that people have towards the "media's lies." More often than not people turn away and ignore the truth, rather than face the truth and find the truth regardless no matter the consequences. I.T. wants to change this through educating the next generation and bringing reform through his music and his reformative ideas.

    4. Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change

Much of I.T's inspiration for his lyrics comes from his beliefs that to bring change society must be confronting human kind’s "vanity and exaggerated history” to spread the issues that he discusses and in doing so he wants to also make people see the true face behind the government. The emphasis he brings on these topics derives from his strong ideas and push for change. He shows strong empathy for the people and countries that he mentions in his songs and uses the lyrics as a way to overcome the media's "brainwashing" efforts as he refers to here.

    1. As the power of the fourth branch has grown, conflicts between the other branches have become more acute. There is no better example than the fights over presidential appointments.

Creates more conflicts among the branches of government and similar to the "fights over presidential appointments" it relates to the similar decisions throughout the war. The protest against the war become more conflicting.

This image is a powerful image that brings influence and provokes thought into the viewer's mind. These are the goals of the fourth branch to persuade the viewer to think one thing and bring forth further ideas. Not only does this image present itself as controversial, but it also alludes itself to similar protest of the Vietnam War in the 60's creating more controversy towards the government.

    2. Conservative political right wing, ideology

The idea of the government only being regulated by one constructed system can no longer be said to be fully true. with the rise of the media, the fourth branch, influencing people more and allowing the "transparency" to come through revealing hidden secretes. This idea is described throughout the song with the lies that are told to the public hiding the intentions or actions of the U.S towards Iraq or leaving out information to reporters such as the reference to Peter Jennings.

    1. Our carefully constructed system of checks and balances is being negated by the rise of a fourth branch, an administrative state of sprawling departments and agencies that govern with increasing autonomy and decreasing transparency.
