A Guelf leader of Bologna, who was the political head of several cities, Venedico is rumoured to have curried favor with the Marquis of Este by subjecting his sister, Ghisolabella, to the man's lascivious desires.
Dante recognizes him as they lock eyes and he names him as Venedico Caccianimico
