Penalties for Academic DishonestyIn individual cases of academic dishonesty, sanctions may range from a written warning to a failing grade for the course; the severity of the penalty is left to the discretion of the instructor. Unintentional plagiarism is still plagiarism and will lead to serious penalties.Additional sanctions may be imposed up to and including dismissal from the City Colleges when circumstances warrant it
Consequences of plagiarism
Avoiding Plagiarism and Academic DishonestyPlagiarism and Academic Dishonesty2In short: don’t plagiarize and don’t cheat. It is important to maintain your academic honesty by turning in work that represents your hard work and thought process. It is better to be original and wrong (although this class is about material that has more than one valid interpretation, not a single right answer) than to copy someone else’s ideas without giving them appropriate credit. All written work should be done individually unless an assignment is specified as a group project.Write in your own words; do not copy and paste fromthe web or other students—it is detectable. Plagiarism involves the failure to acknowledge sources (of ideas, facts, illustrations, and so forth) properly in academic work, thus falsely representing another’s ideas as your own; it can be avoided by properly quoting and citing others’ ideas (using quotation marks and parenthetical or footnote citations) in your written work. MLA Styleis preferred for Humanitiespapers. Any wording or idea that did not originate in your own head needs to be acknowledged with quotation marks and a proper citation in MLA styleto direct the reader back to the original source of the information or idea. If you areever unsure what constitutes plagiarism, ask. For more complete information about the policy on plagiarism, consult the Student Policy Manual. As college students, you are responsible for identifying aspects of plagiarism that you do not understand and for using resources (your instructor, the library, writing lab, and other campus or online resources) to address your questions so you maintain your academic integrity on all assignments. We will be using TurnItIn to help you with this.
Give credit and quote anything that is not yours. DO NOT COPY WORD FOR WORD.

Students are required to attend class. Students will be issued a no-show withdrawal (NSW) under the following circumstances:Courses that meet more than once per week: students who do not attend the first two(2) class sessions will be withdrawn from the class by the instructor and issued an NSW. Courses that meet once per week: students who do not attend the first class session of a course which meets only once per week will be withdrawn from the class by the instructor and issued an NSW
What if it is another time after the first couple weeks?
Late Submission Policy There are assignments, like bi-weeklydiscussion board conversations, where your timeliness is vital in order to allow classmates to have an opportunity to engage with and learn from you. Every effort should be made to meet all due dates, which will be posted on BrS and on the course syllabus schedule. However, during the period of Emergency Remote Instructionnecessitated by COVID-19, I am offering some flexibility regarding due dates. If you let me know in advance that you need another 24 hours on an assignment, I will most likely be able to honor that request. I will be better able to accommodate you if you give me advance notice rather than only ask for it in retrospect. If a student is chronically late on submitting assignments (3 or more assignments are submitted after the posted due date), 5 pts will be deducted for each day the assignment(s) is/are late.Extra CreditSmall extra credit opportunities may be offered at the discretion of the instructor. Ifoffered, any extra credit opportunities will notbe sufficient to make up missed assignments, so the best strategy is to complete allassigned work to the best of your ability by the due date.
