Because Americans think serious means, "I'm standing here. I'm not joking. I'm serious." But when Africans say serious, and I'm using it generally, they say, "No, are you gonna not just speak, are you gonna do?"]
It's just weird to me that the same word can mean different things in different parts of the world. It makes me more aware of how careful you have to be when you go to different places/
