    1. Conclusions

      My general conclusion:

Gambling is a tricky subject. At one point, if you understand the risks you are willing to take AND are of age, dare I say let them eat cake. I cannot say the same for those that are underage and not fiscally responsible for their gambling.

I do gamble, both in the casino and on sports through various books. I have understood one major thing while doing this, which my roommates hate. I bet very small. Like 20 cents. Why? It's a part of the bankroll. The bankroll is technically how much you are willing to bet. In total, it should be about 1% per bet, which is a unit. If I have 20 dollars (case), then 20 cents is about how much I will gamble because it is 1% of my active bankroll (point).

You have to be responsible. When you are easily influenced by the lights and the money you could possibly win, it is just as easy to lose sight of what happens. Bet responsibly, understand the risks, and PLEASE wait until 21 years of age.

    2. This engagementunderscores how specific content features, such as real-timeupdates, relatable language, and visually appealing design, foster loyalty and potentially addictive behaviours amongCYP, making them more receptive to betting-related con-tent.

      (see personalization, or even algorithm)

    3. A notable aspect of gambling-related influencer mar-keting is the role of “tipsters,” a distinct category of influ-encers who provide betting advice and predictions. Theseindividuals often establish themselves as authoritative fig-ures, perceived as both credible and trustworthy by CYP

Tipsters are all questionable. I can input these same stats into an AI service and have the AI write a code for me to give me an edge. This is what happens, and it is easy enough for anyone to replicate. I push back against the idea of a "tipster", but this is just my opinion. Arbitrage, however...

    4. interactive elements of gambling-relatedinfluencer promotions are particularly effective in normal-ising gambling behaviours among CYP. Features such aslive streaming, playful language, and culturally resonantmemes create engaging content that reduces perceived riskswhile increasing appeal

This is not necessarily, once again, a direct correlation to the facts, but I think this video will do a great job in highlight the risks that will pop up when you do end up gambling.

    5. As influ-encers subtly integrate gambling into their everyday content, they embed it within mainstream culture, shaping CYP’sperceptions of gambling as harmless and socially accepted

This point still further influences the idea that children are easily susceptible and might be slow to notice the consistent change in content until it is way too late.

    6. The findings of the scoping review highlight the highexposure of CYP to gambling-related influencer content, particularly on platforms like Twitch and YouTube, wheregambling activities are seamlessly integrated into enter-tainment

A question to ask in response to this is one of whether it is intentionally promoted, or rather one that is formed by a personalized experience???

"Indeed, technological trends toward personalization and toward the use of personal data are built on this assumption, on the assumption that data can not only accurately reflect a person, but also provide knowledge that will allow for the "right" choices to be made on behalf of that person" (Schulte, Personalization).

If this is seemed to be linked to personalized experiences, we must work to understand the idea that it would be more linked to the individual person who is of age, rather than a younger person that will break the law to be able to gamble.

    7. Studies show that tipsters, espe-cially those focused on sports betting, significantly impactCYP’s gambling behaviours by establishing themselvesas trusted authorities whose advice followers perceive ascredible and even profitable.

My roommates and I followed the Parlay Cafe religiously when he was creating parlays like these. While he is somewhat profitable, he became a large figure in the TikTok gambling scene.

    8. Combined with influ-encers’ familiarity and trust-based relationships with fol-lowers, these elements normalise gambling behaviours andincrease CYP’s engagement with such content

You know, this is how parasocial relationships build. It provides a very toxic environment.

Case study: There is a very popular YouTube streamer named Dream, who played a lot of Minecraft. He had built such a large following, he essentially had a fanbase following him around at all times. It got so bad that on Twitter, fans were leaping to defend him against some of the things that he had said previously. The argument in response was, "Dream doesn't know you exist," which is...true. He probably doesn't know you exist, and this is worth a deeper glance at.

    9. Influencer marketing significantly influences CYP’s per-ceptions and attitudes toward gambling, often portraying itas socially acceptable and aspirational

Bally Sports (lesser known sportsbook) was replaced by FanDuel Sports Network (one of, if not the biggest sportsbooks in the United States). It is becoming nearly impossible to avoid at this point.

    10. Research shows that increased exposure to gambling adsleads to a higher intention to gamble [9], a strong predic-tor of future gambling behaviour [10]. However, studieson how social media content influences CYP’s gamblingbehaviour remain limited.

"So the goal of giving users the most relevant search results for their query might be modeled as, or approximated into operationalized terms as, efficiently calculating the combined values of preweighted objects in the index database, in order to improve the percentage likelihood that users lick on one of the first five results," (Gillespie, Algorithm). Straight from Digital Keywords, Gillespie's definition as the trick also ties directly into advertising. Gillespie later mentions the "what is relevant?" part. This is exactly what targeted gambling advertising does.

    11. Constant exposure tocontent can also overstimulate their developing brains, lead-ing to impulsive behaviour and heightened vulnerability tocyberbullying.

Here is where I believe the paper mainly begins. I have noticed that even while working on this, I find myself drifting towards sportsbooks or talking to my friends about going to the casino. This is the beginning in the terms of impulsive behavior and overstimulating. As casinos are quite the impactful overstimulator with the bright lights and sounds and lack and windows, it will have a drastic effect.

    12. Recent data fromthe Pew Research Centre [2] reveals that in 2022–23, nearlyhalf (46%) of U.S. teens reported being online ‘almost con-stantly,’ averaging approximately 5–6 h per day on week-days, with usage rising on weekends

After reading this, I went ahead and did my own research to find what I normally average every single week through my own phone screen time report. I now remember why I deactivated the notifications.
