    1. The edge of extinction is not just a metaphor; system collapse is not a thriller. Ask any refugee of any species

Plays at the ignorance of people. Its been that our society tends to take things lightly if not entertaining or dramatized. It's not a metaphor and it's not a thriller really points to the tiredness of the author to people who don't realize that this is bigger and more than entertainment. Continuously stating that it not only afffects humans but "critters" too.

    2. we need stories (and theories) that are just big enough to gather up the complexities and keep the edges open and greedy for surprising new and old connections

In the texts we've read it has been discussed that we need proper media and literature representaion of slow violence. Needing stories that are entertaining enough yet capture the seriousness and information required to properly understand it and spread awareness. Needng stories that allow themselves to be built upon is also important. As this is not a simple topic, it is something constantly built on over time.

    3. The Anthropocene marks severe discontinuities

We have defined the anthropocene generally as the human impact on environment. But I find it very important to note that it 'marks severe discontinuities' as part of the definition. Our impact on environment is greatly negative. We have built ways upon ways to extract anything we deem useful out of nature in a non-resourceful way. Even our foods are majority processed for it to be aesthetically pleasing. Big, disasterous natural events that are a result of our ignorance is only faced with more ignorance. We are nearing an end to so many of our resources and mainly the poor are being affected.
