    1. How appropriate or effective is this evidence? Would a dif-ferent type of evidence, or some combination of evidence, be more effective?

      Sometimes the most sophisticated kind of evidence may not be the best suited for the people reading your text. You should first think about what kind of people are going to read your writing and with what mindset they will read it with.

    2. Would you want to start your own essay with a quote? Do you think it would be effective to begin your essay with a quote from Presi-dent Obama? What about a quote from someone else?

      It's important to analyze what you learn when reading like a writer and not just add it to your list of techniques. just because a technique worked well in that authors particular text, does not mean that it will always work in yours.

    3. The idea is to carefully examine the things you read, looking at the writerly techniques in the text in order to decide if you might want to adopt similar (or the same) techniques in your writing.

      The goal when reading like a writer is not to understand what the author was writing about, but to understand in what way/style they wrote it. If you decide to use their techniques in your own writing, you will have become a better author after you've read their text.
