    1. By its very blindness, destiny establishes a kind of justice: Blind also is she who decrees to warriors punishment in kind. He that takes the sword, will perish by the sword.

    1. In this brief period of time, we are given enough information to construct an entire life story — provided we have the cultural knowledge upon which -this construction depends.

Things in video texts only make sense when we have the cultural information to construct our own narrative or add to the narrative--think of ads, they wouldn't appeal to us if we had no context for them

    2. , I mean the process through which video texts confirm viewers in their ideological positions and reassure them as to their membership in a collective cultural body.

Video texts reassert ideas we have accepted through normalization and internalization

    3. For the story to work, of course, the ump must make the right call, and we must know it to be right. Here, the close-up and slow motion come into play — just as they would in a real instant replay — to let us see both how close the call is and that the umpire has indeed made the right call. The runner is out. The manager's charge from the dugout is classic baseball protest, and the ump's self-control and slow walk away from the angry manager are gestures in a ritual we all know. That's right, we think, that's the way it's done. We know these moves the way the contemporaries of Aeschylus and Sophocles knew the myths upon which the Greek tragedies were based. Baseball is already a ritual, and a ritual we partake of mostly through the medium of television. The commercial has only to organize these images in a certain way to create a powerful narrative.

I like the logic here, the punctuation and thought process, I think this is something the piece could use more of- I feel most in the character's head here

    2. In passing —

By this point in the piece, I appreciate that there is supposed to be little or no connection between segments but I think the associative logic could be used to tie excerpts together

    3. Like I didn’t owe myself the timeand space to make a consciouschoice. Like I didn’t know I hada right to change my answer.

This is some interesting head space and I think this could be brought out in the character more throughout- how does Kitty act in a way that would reflect this?

    4. Kitty: Inside, she’s been glued to a phone and thinking about the power of internet handles, emojis and avatars for the self (both driving creative play and wildly disconnecting). Kitty putsin the head phones and starts blaring music from one of a variety of playlists she’s made onSpotify. Then she puts on the mask and her cat glasses. She walks outside, hears things and seesthings. Sometimes the lyrics and the beats aid her in leaping from thought to thought, so shewalks really fast. In her head, she may start to repeat, “left / right, left / right.” Other times sheslows down. She’s never going anywhere particularly. This walk is not to the grocery. If she hasany object in mind, it’s just maybe to clear her head, relax her eyes and look up into the sky. Thekey to the walk is its wandering nature if she’s stuck a bit trying to decide on the best route; shewishes to go by instinct and spontaneity

After reading through this piece, I'm curious about the character Kitty. What is the distinction between her as a character and you as a speaker? I felt most invested in this piece when there were more concrete interactions between the speaker and other people. I think through interactions Kitty could be developed. Here you are setting up her surroundings but I wonder what it would be like if you did this more often, if you grounded Kitty in her environment more.
