      Transitions are very important in writing. Words like however, therefore, because, and for example are common transition words to look for in scholarly writing.

      Just like how reading too quickly and casually without comprehension is not beneficial when it comes to academic material, neither is reading slowly and trying to absorb every word. You need to have a balance. You need to read quickly enough that you do not spend too much time on one portion, but you must read slowly enough to understand the material.

      This is why evidence is very important in history, and why we examine several types of sources in different forms. Without evidence, we don't know whether or not something actually happened. People can make up stories, we need the proof.
