    1. since that time, need for integrating technology into learning SS has become a major interest in the world community

I agree with Mortorella's idea that technology in social studies is considered the "sleeping giant." When thinking of my own experiences in my previous social studies classes, there was not much technology being used. We most likely read from the history book and discussed what we read in class or read the book and filled in a worksheet involving what we read. Including technology in social studies classes can benefit the students because books do not have all the answers and sometimes teach us things that are not true. Students can look up certain events that happened in the past or watch interactive videos. The teacher can also include Virtual Reality to travel to past places where historically events occurred. The way teachers can use technology is endless says Mortorella. Mortorella points out many advantages and disadvantages of technology used in social studies classrooms. In my opinion, the good out ways the bad and integrated technology into social studies classes with definitely benefit the students and teachers.

    1. students to solve modern societal problems through engineering design

To me it is hard to understand how engineering can be included in all aspects of subjects. When thinking about engineering, I often think about building and solving problems which can be used in math or science classes but not in English or literature classes. So I think the author can elaborate on how engineering can be used in all subjects.

    2. Should involve a student-centered discussion of the overarching issue or challenge, as well as the student-defined problems with a purpose of iden-tifying the key concepts needed to be learned to begin developing solutions.

I think it is a good idea to have an open discussion because it allows for students to learn off of each other. Social interactions may bring up questions or things that the students do not understand but can benefit when talking about it in a group.

    1. People will possess favorable attitude on certain object,

This article gives many outcomes that can transfer into other aspects of education. People favorite certain things such as liking math better than reading. A personal example for myself is that I was never the best reader or writer. I could not comprehend books or small texts when I read them. In tenth grade my teacher wanted me to succeed and for me to stop bringing myself down whenever we had a writing assignment due. She showed me a website that allowed me to enter my writing and it would tell me what mistakes I made. It did not fix them for me, it had me do it on my own which helped me evolve as a writer. This is just one small outcome of research the article points out that can transfer into other aspects of education.

    2. omputer technology can create a conflict between those students who have a positive or negative attitude to technology use as a teaching tool

Attitude can effect many events in students lives. If a student has negative attitude toward doing math problems, then more often then not they will not try their best on completing them. It is the same with technology. Students attitudes towards technology can be effected by their own personal experiences or by others experiences that they notice. When a teacher is using technology and does not quite seem to understand it, it effects how the students view it. It may make them view using technology as being too hard. When teachers are using technology for a lesson, I feel as if they should practice before they start teaching. They could even give students the background of the technology before using it, so the students understand it better. If the teachers have knowledge of technology and have a positive outlook on the way technology increases students learning, then it will be more positive on the students. This will allow them to become more comfortable and confident with using technology and having a positive outlook about it.

    1. reskilling and upskilling of today’s workers will be critical.

This quote stuck out to me because everyone brings something different to the table when it comes to a job. Those who bring the specific skills the workplace is looking for will get the job compared to the rest. So it is crucial for everyone to adapt to the different ways the workplaces are changing, so they can get the job.

    2. requiring proactive adaptation

In my opinion, education should adapt to the changes that are occurring in the workplace. We are paying money to go to a college for them to teach us the different ways to get a job and the skills we need for a specific workplace. If you need to be analytical about solving problems then I think the schools we are paying for should change the way they are teaching us. This could include more technology based classes since technology is one of the main focuses now.

    1. different expectations for individuals who are doing the same job

I have never heard that men and women have different traits when being rated. This is odd for me to wrap my head around because everyone can carry the same traits whether male or female. So coming to the conclusion that men are being said to be smart or brilliant while women are being sad to be sweet and warm or cold is mind blowing for me. It's odd that there is a difference between men and women who are doing the same job.

    2. men: smart, idiot, interesting, boring, cool, creepy. And for women: sweet, shrill, warm, cold, beautiful, evil.

Listening to this podcast and hearing about "rate my professor," I rarely use this tactic after figuring out who my teachers are. I only used this once, for both freshmen year of high school and college. I only used it in college because my roommate was using it and we had almost the same teachers.

    1. kind of high simply by being around other adolescents.

From my own perspective when I was younger, I loved being around other kids. Since I am an only child the only time I really saw my friends were in school or at sports practices. I loved the feeling of being able to see them and just talk which made me love school. When I did not go to school it was like weight on my shoulders and it made me upset. So this sentence makes sense to me because I can see how adolescents get a "high" from being around their friends and classmates.

    2. reward-seeking warp speed.

This makes sense to me because looking at my younger cousin who is in this age group, she rather get something in return for doing good rather than just doing it because it is the right thing to do.

    3. an adolescent's weakness is other adolescents

In my own experiences, when I am driving with my friends I seem to be more cautious rather than myself being alone. For example, driving through a yellow light I do when I'm by myself but when I am with a group of friends or just another person in the car I stop instead of running through it. Just for my own personal experience I am more cautious in the car with my friends rather than just myself.

    4. The mere presence of peers makes them less cautious.

I agree with this statement because just being around my friends (people who I trust) makes me feel safe and secure where I feel less anxious about a situation. It allows me to relax when hard times are coming my way. As well as getting peer pressured to do what my friends do because if they are doing it then it ok for me to as well.

    1. Gifted students who possess technological prowessshould be appropriately challenged in this skill areato continue to maintain interest in learning, to grow inknowledge and use of technology, and to engage inlearning opportunities that address these unique abil-ities

My thoughts about integrating technology into gifted education is that it needs to happen. Technology opens a wide variety of new and interesting ways for students to learn new things. I was in gifted from 1st to 4th grade and we always utilized the time to explore new ways of learning on our teachers computer. She would make lessons into a short movie we would watch. Following that she would add homework assignments but they were not just on paper, they were colorful sheets with different ways we could answer the questions. There was never just one answer, she allowed us to have an opinion and be able to voice it no matter what. Technology should be more integrated into gifted education because it allows the students to think more effectively and it never will leave them bored. Technology always has a new way that is fun for students in gifted education to learn.

    1. He talks about how faculty are content experts but that teaching well requires more than content knowledge.

This statement stood out to me because a lot of my teachers only knew what they were teaching and if I asked a question that was not relevant to what they were teaching, they had no idea what to say. Some teachers do not even know how to use certain computer software that is essential for a student to thrive in school. In high school I took an online class at a community college and I asked my computer teacher to help me set up the software we needed to use. He had no idea how to do it because he did not have a growth mindset about the software I needed. Teachers should expand their online identity to help students who most likely will be taking a class online or having to do discussions in college.

    2. The number of students taking at least one online course increased from the previous year by over 570,000 to a new total of 6.7 million.

My online identity is always growing. More than half of my homework assignments, tests, and quizzes are all online. Growing up technology was always being used whether it was the smart board or earlier in my education, the overhead projector. I was taking computer classes in elementary school which now benefited me in the long run. I now know how to use certain software and being able to teach other people as well. My mom owns her own business and has to use Excel for her workers pay. In middle school I had a year long Excel course that I can now use to help her when she has any questions. I am growing my own online identity while my mom is also just from me teaching her.

    1. Teach the material to someone else.

I agree 100% that I am a kinesthetic learner. I have always been one to enjoy labs and activities because to me it is easier to learn the material when it is hands on. I've been playing sports since I was 3 years old. Now that I am in college, I am grateful enough to still be playing but also getting to coach what I know best. When explaining drills to the players I often just show them what to do. I try not to verbally explain it to them because in my opinion, they will understand it better if I just run through it, rather then talk about it for 5 minutes. I also received a lot in auditory which I was surprised about. During lectures I tend to doze off or start thinking about other things that are not relevant to the class at all. As I read the description of auditory learner, some of it makes sense as to why I scored a few points. I tend to read all my notes out loud or even when I would read a book for English class. It helps me comprehend what I am reading. Also, I like to work in places that have no distractions because I get off topic very easily and I usually try to put my phone away so I can focus for a longer period of time.

    1. I’m not very good in geography either.

Also here the narrator is saying he is not very good at geography either. Yet towards the end of the article he takes his uncle on a 500 mile trip by just reading a map. He is doubting himself, just because he does not know the imports and exports of Chile, does not mean he doesn't know how to read a map which I can just barely do myself. I think he is doubting himself due to the fact that the teachers aren't engaging the students on where they live but instead teaching them about some place they might not even see.

    2. In school, though, we’ve got to learn whatever is in the book and I just can’t memorize the stuff.

I relate to what the narrator is saying here. In schools nowadays teachers expect students to sit down and memorize lessons or lectures for exams. Constructivist perspective is supposed to help the student learn in a way that they will enjoy. He does not seem to enjoy school and when he tries to expand to learn things he wants to know, he gets shut down. As a college student I can relate to this. I was originally a nursing student and the classes were all lecture based while memorizing hundreds of slides. I can't memorize long lists of information which shows considering I switched into education. Teachers being able to tell how students learn and comprehend information in the best way possible makes in more enjoyable for the students to learn. The teachers at the narrators school are lacking that aspect.
