For the next 10 minutes, students have the option to work independently, with a partner, or in a small group with the teacher to list as many symptoms as they can for at least one of the diseases. Students have the option to write words or draw images to represent symptoms on a provided graphic organizer. As they work, they are encouraged to use their devices for research and to find a place conducive to their learning. Two students work at a standing desk while others grab clip boards and gather on the floor with their devices.

Really like this idea, as it gives students multiple options on how they want to complete the assignment, especially for students who need it.

    3. So providing options for students to reflect on the barriers they are facing and choose pathways that best meet their needs is critical to build self-awareness and expert learning.

Absolutely, this is so important because it is what is going to help them to ultimately succeed at the end.

    4. Variability is the rule, not the exception. Students may need to learn in different ways, using different materials, and share what they have learned in different ways to reach the same goals.

Completely agree with this as students don't always learn in the same way as others. The way that students learn is diverse.

    1. Let students choose how to present their work

Absolutely, it drives me crazy when teachers don't give students a choice when presenting their work, it doesn't allow students to be creative.

    2. One of the greatest benefits of educational technology is that you can tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs, goals, and interests of students.

This is true, but educational technology can also be harmful as it can allow students to become distracted while in classrooms.

    1. Digital games, flashcards, and interactive quiz tools are well-suited for behaviorist learning experiences since they support stimulus-response learning through immediate feedback.

While this is true, they can also be beneficial to use when studying for exams.

    2. Bloom’s taxonomy, and the ISTE Standards for Students

I have never heard of these two, but am willing to learn and potentially use them in the future.

    1. The California law also gives users a choice over whether their personal information is shared

I think that every other state should follow California, that way internet users are being protected from the dangers online.

    2. In 2017, Congress repealed the rules from the FCC, essentially without explanation, so we’re back to having no such protection for internet service.

Personally to me, this is terrifying because a lot of personal information are being released to the public, so anyone can basically find you.

    1. Teachers should examine how student data is collected and used before allowing students to interact with AI-based assistive technologies in the classroom.

Of course they should, it's so important to

    2. Existential – understanding themselves and the world around them

I found this shocking because that is super crucial for people who rely on assistive technology to be able to understand themselves and also their surroundings.

    3. Intelligences that AI-based assistive technology is capable of performing

      Absolutely

    2. Read the Terms of Service or End-User License Agreement

I feel like I most def. need to do this more often because I often don't know what I'm checking.

    3. Similarly, end-user license agreements (EULA) and terms of service (TOS) agreements feature opaque language that may cause you to give away your right to privacy without truly understanding what you are doing when you click “I agree.”

I can relate to this a lot because I often will just click the "agree" button without actually reading through it because it's too long.

    1. How easy is it for users to accomplish basic tasks the first time they encounter the design?

I felt that some of the teachers that I had in the past made some of tasks that required students to use the new online tools were much more difficult then they were intended to be.

    2. When developing an online course, we need to be thinking about designing experiences, not just instruction. Beyond simply the transfer and acquisition of knowledge and skills, designing for learning experiences is outcomes-driven, goal-oriented, and human-centered.

For me personally, I felt that some of the classes that were moved online that were originally in person were more confusing and not designed in a good way online. I felt that some of the classes I thought were interesting in person was the opposite online.

    1. Finally, the rubric offers individual descriptions of the qualities an e-learning tool must have to achieve a standard.

    1. Students with communication disabilities may struggle to speak, read, and/or comprehend verbal information. When evaluating the accessibility of a digital tool or app for students with communication disabilities, determine whether it:

As someone who struggles with communication, I can not stress how important this is. So many times, I have be given websites or articles that include only text, which has made understanding it so much more difficult.

    2. There are various types of injuries and health issues that can cause physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, arthritis, traumatic brain injuries, or even a broken arm from playing a sport. For students with impairments in body function or mobility, it can be challenging to use digital tools and apps that require motor input.

I have never realized that there are actually tools that require mobility movement as most of the tools that I have used, such as Canva don't require that. After reading this, it has made me re-consider that digital tools should be accessible to everyone.

    3. However, when you start the video in class, most students cannot hear it because the audio is too low and the volume of the computer speakers cannot be increased. And you find out that the closed captions in the video are inaccurate.

Completely agree this and that it indeed does help to add value, but also another perspective to the conversation. I would use this in the future when I have to create a PLN and also what I would contribute to a PLN.

    1. When you are deciding who to add to your PLN, it can be helpful to reflect upon the people currently in your network and assess how you interact with them in order to identify ways to grow your PLN.

    1. While PLNs can offer multiple benefits, there are also several challenges—many of which are specifically related to the use of social media for cultivating and expanding PLNs.

I like how the article does not only list the pros, but also the cons. It offers different perspectives

    2. a broader conceptualization of PLNs as multifaceted ecosystems of support for ongoing career-based learning aligns well with contemporary hybrid learning experiences.

I found this to be really interesting, never thought of it this way
