    1. gold knob rusted and dulled

      In contrast with the white door, the knob is rusted and dull. The knob is gold pointing to the fact that it was once shinny and beautiful. The rusted knob represents Shivam's already slightly tainted innocence. Shivam saw the car he has some idea of what is going on, but he is not entirely convinced yet.

      White symbolizes innocence or purity. Which makes sense as Shivam is given one last chance to turn back and keep his innocence. Opening this door symbolizes Shivam giving up his innocence.

      Holding onto his mother because he is sad for her. This also figuratively represents Shivam trying to hold onto the childhood he just lost. He is trying to hold his shattered childhood innocence together.

The change in setting represents Shivam's journey from childhood into a young man. The store is the real world problems that his home has been sheltering him from. In a way the home is an extension of his mom, as both have been sheltering him from the dangers of the world.

      The mom is associated with pink. Pink is generally considered soft, warm, gentle, and loving. This accurately describes the mother she is trying to hold herself together for her son, to protect him.

      Silver is associated with allusiveness and quickness. In the story the father's affair is hidden from Shivam. The car is even partially hidden in the shadows symbolizing that Shivam should not have found out. It could also symbolize how maybe Shivam sees the car, but is still unsure of what is going on.

      Red here symbolizes lust and betrayal most likely. The dad is very closely associated with red (ie., his car). The red he is associated with is all kind of bright or loud. The brightness of it could symbolize the affair becoming clear to the son. The son sees clearly now how his father has betrayed his family.
