    1. Trauma and Shame. URL: https://www.oohctoolbox.org.au/trauma-and-shame (visited on 2023-12-10).

After reading this, I thought it was so interesting that shame activates the parasympathetic system instead of the sympathetic system. The parasympathetic system is the one responsible fort doing day to day things such as resting and digesting. This is because it helps manage your emotions by slowing down your heart rate. I thought the biology aspect was so interesting and I would love to learn more.

    1. Another way of considering public shaming is as schadenfreude, meaning the enjoyment obtained from the troubles of others [r8].

This kind of reminds me of one of the Ethics Frameworks that I have reviewed over time; Egoism. Egoism focuses on your own pleasure. An individual with Egoism Lifestyle may do things selfishly and in order to please only themselves.

    1. Emily Heil. A woman made chili for neighbors, and outrage ensued. Was she wrong? Washington Post, November 2022. URL: https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2022/11/18/chili-neighbors-twitter-etiquette/ (visited on 2023-11-21).

I feel kind of bad for the woman making the food for neighbors. She just wanted to be kind and do something nice and in return she got a bunch of people telling her that she was doing it for attention. I understand people may have allergies but I think it is the gesture and the thought that matters.

    1. What responsibility do you think social media platforms should have for reducing individual and crowd harassment?

A lot of the times, Instagram won't let an account be banned unless there is many people doing it. Instagram "claims" to review certain posts to make sure people aren't just reporting it for no reason but there are instances where Instagram ignores it.. I think they should be more careful and actually review things.

I think this is a good example of people getting together to help other people. This reminds me of a documentary, "Don't f*** with cats" which is where there was a guy on the internet publishing disturbing content of him torturing cats and people tracked him in order to bring him to justice. This is an example of crowdsourcing.

    2. GoFundMe: #1 Fundraising Platform for Crowdfunding. URL: https://www.gofundme.com/ (visited on 2023-12-08).

I think this is a really good example of positive crowdsourcing. I've donated on it a couple of times especially when it had to do with things I related to or believed. For example, when Immigration and deportations was terrible, I always tried to donate even a little bit in order to help reunite families.

    1. When social media users work together, we can consider what problem they are solving. For example, for some of the Tiktok Duet videos from the virality chapter, the “problem” would be something like “how do we create music out of this source video” and the different musicians contribute their own piece to the solution. For some other examples:

I am not sure if this would be an example of crowdsourcing but there is an app called, "Be My Eyes" which has volunteers to help blind people with everyday things such as picking a certain color outfit or helping them find an item. I think this is an example of people working together to solve an issue.

    1. Block an account: a user can block an account from interacting with them or seeing their content

Although blocking is a good way to stop any sort of harassment, I found that it doesn't necessarily stop an individual. I've seen personally when a person creates several accounts to continue reaching out and I am glad Instagram made the option to "block other accounts created by this person".

    1. In what ways do you think you’ve participated in any crowdsourcing online?

I think I have participated in crowd sourcing when liking and engaging with TikTok's that go towards something important. A lot of times the video will include a caption saying, "Stay for 20 seconds so I can make enough money to pay for my dog's surgery". And although I don't know if I fully believe, a lot of other people will stay as well.

It is so crazy that people will fake having some sort of illness all because of attention. I have first hand seen the toll that cancer has on families and how much it damages them. It is completely unsettling.

    1. In what ways have you found social media bad for your mental health and good for your mental health?

I've found social media has been bad for me because I find myself doomscrolling instead of doing things that could be productive. I also find that I watch news a lot more and my anxiety tends to be higher when I do engage in more news sources. Something good that has come out of social media is that I am more informed about what is going on. Also, I have learned a lot of new information and I am able to communicate with friends and family who aren't close distance.

    1. Clinton–Lewinsky scandal. November 2023. Page Version ID: 1187645037. URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Clinton%E2%80%93Lewinsky_scandal&oldid=1187645037 (visited on 2023-12-08).

It is so crazy how much controversy has occurred surrounding the White House and the people in the White House. It makes me wonder how much stuff have people in power gotten away with. For example, Monica Lewinsky claims she had sexual encounters with Bill Clinton and he denied it multiple times. It is upsetting to see that Presidents keep getting away with things.

    1. So we can look at the evolution of these books: which got copied, and how they changed over time.

This makes me wonder about History. We learn all of our information from journals, books, etc.. So it makes me think what if some parts of what we know to be "true" are actually fake. If people had to have copies of books and scribe them, it is possible that any information could've been distorted. Just like the telephone game.

    1. Kashmir Hill. How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did. Forbes, February 2012. URL: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/02/16/how-target-figured-out-a-teen-girl-was-pregnant-before-her-father-did/ (visited on 2023-12-07).

This was a really cool and interesting read. I wonder what exactly the daughter was looking up that made Target absolutely sure that she was pregnant. I also found it very noble and humble that the dad reached out after and apologized to the manager; it was very sweet. But also, I bet the daughter was stressed out especially if as a high schooler, she was trying to hide the pregnancy.

    1. What experiences do you have of social media sites making particularly good recommendations for you?

I think a good example of a social media platform that makes good recommendations would be TikTok. Although there is a lot of controversy surrounding how they're able to create recommendations for you, they do a really good job at it. For example, if I am searching up dinner ideas my for you page immediately feeds me food content. Or if I rewatch a funny video my for you page becomes ten times more funny afterwards.
