Good research must begin with a good research question. Yet coming up with good research questions is something that novice researchers often find difficult and stressful. One reason is that this is a creative process that can appear mysterious—even magical—with experienced researchers seeming to pull interesting research questions out of thin air. However, psychological research on creativity has shown that it is neither as mysterious nor as magical as it appears. It is largely the product of ordinary thinking strategies and persistence (Weisberg, 1993)[1]
LEARN: It's amazing how research all begins with a just a simple question. But getting it right is not as simple! It's so easy for a question to be too general or too narrow. And when you have to re-evaluate how you are viewing (your observation and question) to ensure it's right for an actual study, it seems daunting (to me). Almost how I felt thinking about creating our own research study for this class. But like the last sentence notes, it's about strategizing and persistence. Which I will keep in mind throughout the course for our project.
