Hinting at the rise of school shootings

I annotated this article yesterday. It has since been updated so now my annotations are no longer here. On the hypothesis website you can see all the annotations I made. On hypothesis, the title said "manifesto" and now the updated version says "writings." thats very interesting

Discussed the amount of rounds fired. Very specific for a title

The whole article is about how the shooting was premeditated, yet does not discuss much about the amount of writings there were discussing it. It was mentioned multiple times, but there weren't many details surrounding it or conclusions to be suggested

This last tidbit feeds into the widely debated gun control talk. Bringing up the "renewed" debate shows how it is only discussed when the next mass school shooting happens before it dies out again. It also sounds bias in the structural choice to place the debate is back up and the shooter was under emotional disorder yet legally bought firearms

This again, references the writings left by the shooter. If they were willing to release graphic body cam footage, it causes the public to question why the writings wouldn't be released. THis also allows people to come to the conlusion I have seen on social media that it was a targeted attack on christians. People could come to this conclusion based on this line

The article mentions multiple times how many rounds were shot be each person. They chose to be specific

This was another aspect I noticed a lot on social media. People online want the manifesto to be released and believe there's more to it than they're stating. This article does not comment on the potential release of the manifesto, but does mention her writings and how she studied other mass murderers

The lead of the story describes the shooter, how many rounds, and the school. The word choice to use an adjective to describe the school was used. I found this interesting. The article also left out the gender of the shooter and I know that was a highly discussed aspect of the shooting

They put gun control information at the very end of article. This is usually where the least important information goes. Interesting to put at the bottom

THis article only used this one quote from the mother, leaving out other informaiton I found in other articles

The organization of the article shows how they first discussed the manifesto, gender, and guns. This just now goes into how the incident unfolded. Shows me they wanted to put what they deemed as most important in the beginning

THis is the first article that discussed the seizing of guns at the home of attacker. The word choice of seize guns is interesting because it sounds a lot more dramatic and focuses the attention on the guns conversation

I thought this was random. The entire article discussed Hale as a person, then abruptly ended with when the school was founded and enrollment

I also didn't know this. Interesting to use the quote religious as it was an attack on christian children. I wish it went more into her religious affiliations

I have never seen an interview with the mother. Interesting they used this quote because she refers to the shooter as "daughter" compared to the transgender identity of being a man

This goes into the writings and how the school and church were a target, but keeps in that there were other locations targeted. Some article did not do that

The choice of "legally" and "unspecified emotional disorder" in the same sentence leads to the narrative of gun control

The headline constructs the story to describe who the shooter was other than a monster. It off the bat identifies her as the Nashville shooter, so it makes people want to click to find out more

The organization of this article put the shooters occupation first. THis is peculiar choice but fits the title of the article as who the shooter was

The lengthiest description I have seen describing the transgenderism behind Audrey

First time I have seen a lead describe the shooter as graphic designer. I feel like this makes the shooter seem human and "normal"

The news station had the investigation who found Hale liekly to train. I am curious to know how this played out

Choosing this source is a political and prominence angle

This was worded confusingly to me. But it sounds like the reason it wasn't released was ebcause the investigation is still open. THis would explain what the entire article is about.

This entire section hardly talked about the writings and jumped right back, stating for the second time, the firearms were legally purchased. This shows me that the angle this article took was from the conclusions I have been making about either the transgender hate on christians narrative or gun control narrative and this is gun control

I found this itneresting because the other articles discuss a potential motive or hint at the writings, yet this clearly states it that police do not know the motive

I wonder what specifically he is referring to

I agree it could be helpful, but it's hard to not assume that there's another intent and that is to push the opposite narrative that transgender individuals are a danger, especially to the christian community

This is extremely fascinating because we have learned about narratives. I believe he's reaching the conclusion that the narrative the media want to push is for gun control, but what do you do when a transgender attack christians when the right side believes transgenderism is the push for left narratives
