Accountability means a commitment to self-reflection that is active and responsible. Institutional and individual accountability are presented as inter-related gears, having to work in concert with one another in order to incite long-term change
One of the questions to be posed for individuals in the chart below is "ow do I extend my responsibility beyond individual clients and advocate for changes in local, state, and national policies and practices?" I wonder for myself, how I will manage balancing clinical practice with policy advocacy. At times it feels like social workers are being asked to do a day job and then a night job on top of that, I feel policy is pitched as a moral obligation of people who are in practice. Maybe that's right, but I know for myself that providing services without payment is not long term sustainable for me. Just anticipating the intricacies of this balance.
