This makes me wonder why and how Nettie and Celie are staying so positive throughout the tough moves because they are living like nomads.

I say God took it.
When Celie says this, she says it with a very strong tone, and I think her strength is unintentional because her miscarriage made her realize that it was not going to be easy for her to be a mother, and that added to her strength as an individual.

My mama dead. She die screaming and cussing. She scream at me. She cuss at me. I'm big. I can't move fast enough.
When Celie says this, I can sense that there used to be tension between herself and her mother, because her mother used to yell at her, and used to use her weight as a disadvantage.

I think this is important because it shows significance to the strength of Celies character. I think the fact that her mother died while fighting made Celie a trooper.

Us married now, I tell her. Your place is here with the children.
When she says that her place is there with the children, I think that she is implying nothing other than that Sofia belongs in the house doing "typical wifey things".

Harpo ast me. How come you stubborn? He don't ast How come you his wife? Nobody ast that.
This shocked me because Harpo, Celie's step-son, asked his "mother", why she is so stubborn, and technically asked why she is his mother. This surprised me because I would think that the children wouldn't talk back to their parents, but I guess that Harpo doesn't treat Celie with that kind of respect because she is not his real mother, and he does not care.

When Nettie says this, I can imagine how broken she is because she and Celie are trying their best to get an education, and their father is bringing them down, and making them feel unworthy. In addition, their father is sexually abusive, so in my head, I thought that that'd be the only thing he was doing to hurt these girls, but no. He is saying how they are stupid and do not deserve to go and get an education.
