    1. It is important that your body paragraphs support your main idea and thesis. Each paragraph should argue one main idea and have supporting details to back the main idea.

      It is important to have your body paragraphs correlate with your statement.

    1. autobiographies are a deeply personal genre, a tool for internal reflection and personal growth.

      So similar to a diary it lets you reflect on your personal growth and emotions ?

    2. More importantly, on a broader level, we should note that all writing—all knowing—is to some degree autobiographical.

      In one way or another all writing is autobiographical because we draw from our own experiences when we write.

      So anyone can write a autobiography about their culture? I didn’t know that was a thing

      The difference between actively reading and just reading is huge! Information can go right over your head if you’re not paying attention.

    1. capitalize actually do NOT need to be capitalized, such as the names of seasons,

      I did not know this, I hope I didn’t capitalize any season names in my writings.

      I did this but I was t too sure if it was the correct way. Know I know

    1. How do you go about writing a summary? 

      Keep the main points if the piece you are reading without adding too much detail or informations keep it straight to the point.

    2. hen you use summary in academic writing do you have to cite the source you are summarizing, even if it is totally in your own words?

      You absolutely have to cite your summary!!! If your work references a article or piece that is not yours. You should absolutely cite it.

    1. Who is the author or organization? What are their motives in publishing the information?

      I often see websites provide fake data in order to sell out there product. Example like weight loss teas or protein powder. I see this everywhere.

    2. It can be easy to identify an unreliable source when it's obvious, but harder when the source supports your own point of view,

      People let their opinions or bias cloud the way they take in information. That’s why it’s important to stay neutral

    3. This doesn't mean that popular sources are less valuable or necessarily contain low-quality or false information; it just depends!

      This is why it’s good to cross check your sources because you never know

      I do this all the time when I’m reading something. I did this before annotating the assignment.

      I remember first learning about this in class. It was very eye opening.

    1. Delete the comma and use a semicolon - semi-colons CAN be used to connect two independent clauses / two sentences. They imply that there is some strong relationship between the two sentences but they don’t say what that relationship is.

      I would love to use semi colons more often in my sentences. The only thing stoping me is the fear of using them wrongly.

    2. It's a kind of comma "mistake" that occurs when a writer uses a comma to connect (splice together) two different sentences (or independent clauses) into one. In formal written EAE, commas can't be used between two different sentences (or independent clauses): you need a period, a semicolon, or a connecting word

      I am very guilty of doing this in my writing. I hope learning more about it will prevent me from using a comma splice again.

    1. A controlling idea is *not* the the same as the topic, the subject, what the text is about. A controlling idea is a complete thought, an idea, not just the topic that your text is about, but what you're saying about your topic.

      controlling idea is more of lesson or idea you learn from the main topic.

    2. A controlling idea is the central, most important, main idea in a text (a paragraph, essay, book, etc.). It "controls" the text because everything else in it is in service to that main idea,

      so everything the paragraph/essay is about revolves around the controlling idea.

    3. Academic essays, especially in English class, are by far way more strict about where and how to state these ideas than any other kind of writing. Articles and books have a lot more variation and freedom in a how exactly it all goes down.

      im so excited to know more about academic writing, currently I feel like my writing is very bland. I could do much better if I knew how.

      slide number three states that pre writing is done before writing. Its the brain storming part of a great story. Prewriting is so important for me to learn because of how many times I change my mind about the topic while I'm writing.
