Edwards believed that religion shouldbe rooted not only in reason but also inemotion.
I agree with this statement because religion is a lot more then just reason you have to have emotion for that religion as well its more then what it seems

Gratitude is so much more than a polite thank you.
I love the use gratitude here because it goes on to explain that its more then just a thank you it has more meaning to it a deeper meaning in things we do in our everyday lives that affect our souls and spirits.
In naming the plants who shower us with goodness, we recognize that these are gifts from our plant relatives, manifestations of their generosity, care, and creativity.
I like how this quote goes to show how the names of these fruits have significance because we recognize that they're just "plant relatives". so its interesting to know that.
And the second commandment of the Teaching; You shall not commit murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit pederasty, you shall not commit fornication, you shall not steal, you shall not practice magic, you shall not practice witchcraft, you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is born. You shall not covet the things of your neighbor, you shall not swear, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not speak evil, you shall bear no grudge. You shall not be double-minded nor double-tongued, for to be double-tongued is a snare of death. Your speech shall not be false, nor empty, but fulfilled by deed. You shall not be covetous, nor rapacious, nor a hypocrite, nor evil disposed, nor haughty. You shall not take evil counsel against your neighbor. You shall not hate any man; but some you shall reprove, and concerning some you shall pray, and some you shall love more than your own life.
The second commandment gives us that idea of living in the way of death, betraying God's word and sinning will having you living the life of death. Sin is the biggest mistake it seems in this paragraph but it all makes us believe that if you break this commandment and sin you will live a life of death.
. There are two ways, one of life and one of death, but a great difference between the two ways
I feel like the start of this reading does a great job of giving that feeling of you have two ways of life. The reading goes on to talk about some commandments and how breaking those commandments give you that option of life or death, it all correlates with God and the Bible as well.
We are asked to become one. We are not asked to become each other.
This line right here is just lovely no one is the same in anyway no one is the same person so being able to become one with each other is more important than trying to become each other
Such knowledge and power, as we have discovered, can be used greatly to enhance and improve our lives or they can be exploited to diminish and destroy human life and the environment even on a global scale.
I love this quote because as we seen show much over time knowledge and power has either destroyed the earth or helps it in some way. this has been going on for so long and just gives a dimminsing feeling because we control what we do with our knowledge and power.
You shall not be double-minded nor double-tongued, for to be double-tongued is a snare of death.
I believe that this little sentence is super powerful, to not be "double-minded or double tongued" basically just means do not be a liar do not say this when you did that and commit sinful acts.
By way of example, let’s say it’s an average adult day, and you get up in the morning, go to your challenging, white-collar, college-graduate job, and you work hard for eight or ten hours, and at the end of the day you’re tired and somewhat stressed and all you want is to go home and have a good supper and maybe unwind for an hour, and then hit the sack early because, of course, you have to get up the next day and do it all again. But then you remember there’s no food at home. You haven’t had time to shop this week because of your challenging job, and so now after work you have to get in your car and drive to the supermarket. It’s the end of the work day and the traffic is apt to be: very bad. So getting to the store takes way longer than it should, and when you finally get there, the supermarket is very crowded, because of course it’s the time of day when all the other people with jobs also try to squeeze in some grocery shopping. And the store is hideously lit and infused with soul-killing muzak or corporate pop and it’s pretty much the last place you want to be but you can’t just get in and quickly out; you have to wander all over the huge, over-lit store’s confusing aisles to find the stuff you want and you have to manoeuvre your junky cart through all these other tired, hurried people with carts (et cetera, et cetera, cutting stuff out because this is a long ceremony) and eventually you get all your supper supplies, except now it turns out there aren’t enough check-out lanes open even though it’s the end-of-the-day rush. So the checkout line is incredibly long, which is stupid and infuriating. But you can’t take your frustration out on the frantic lady working the register, who is overworked at a job whose daily tedium and meaninglessness surpasses the imagination of any of us here at a prestigious college.
I believe that this entire statement just shows how people tend to let built up anger and frustration bother them. Their all stuck in the same boring routine everyday and each day the little things come back and bother them to the point when they take it out on someone else.
. The point is that petty, frustrating crap like this is exactly where the work of choosing is gonna come in. Because the traffic jams and crowded aisles and long checkout lines give me time to think, and if I don’t make a conscious decision about how to think and what to pay attention to, I’m gonna be pissed and miserable every time I have to shop. Because my natural default setting is the certainty that situations like this are really all about me.
This little part just shows and tells us that the little things don't matter, that you cant let the little petty stuff that irritates you get to you because then everytime that little thing happens it'll affect you more and more each time until it eventually blows up.
