      The author uses strong words to describe the beatings and struggles African American slaves went through

    2. From 1865 to 1872, hundreds of colored men and women were mercilessly murdered and the almost invariable reason assigned was that they met their death by being alleged participants in an insurrection or riot.

      Stats of slavery is being shown in the text giving a small description of the situations that occurred in those times.

      Henry was much more intelligent and spoke more fluently than other characters in the story, this description shows some of the characteristics carried by Henry.

      The dialogue of characters other than Henry shows the accent of each character.

      Mr. Walker and other slave owners saw the slaves as flesh and nothing more as if they had no soul or emotions.

      Another religious reference which can be connected to some of our previous stories, seems like teir is a pattern with religion back in this time. Slaves would resort to God for encouragement.

      The treatment received by some slaves was sadly passed down to the children as they had to grow in the same environment.

      The narrator believes his stories and problems offend us (the reader). The narrator is using some descriptive moments that he believes is unsuitable for the reader.

    2.     These magicians were also our doctors or physicians. They practised bleeding by cupping; and were very successful in healing wounds and expelling poisons.

      Were magicians the only source of help back in this time? Did everyone believe in their work?

      Magicians seemed to believable back in this time. "Though we had no places of public worship". African Americans were taken of their privilege to celebrate their religion.
