    1. Someone who can create tornados could raze wholetowns. That’s dangerous. And dangerous people need to becontrolled. And if they can’t be controlled, best they be put down.

I think this is a common theme surrounding native people, especially the unknown to what is the norm (by standards of the colonizer). That is why scientist conduct research on things that are sacred to us. Or how the US government has "Area 51". People are scared of the unknown and are most likely labeled dangerous by outsiders. But we know that our magic and our beliefs is what is really dangerous. And so colonizers try to control and put us down.

    2. And then what I’m looking at finally clicks. “What the hell, Kai?Your face. It’s perfect!”

This part is what really got me. At first, I thought that maybe Grace's twins put makeup on him or something to coverup the bruises and sores. But to find out it is his own tribe's magic and healing powers just made me so happy that he isnʻt in pain anymore. And to have healing powers is so cool. I like that these healing powers is magical and fantasy...but it is also their beliefs. So I guess it is borderline fantasy/magic/religious beliefs.

    3. The way he called me shí daughter.Daughter.That word means something in Navajo

Maggie stresses the importance of family -- which is a common theme in many Indigenous and native cultures. I have empathy for Maggie here because being a daughter to someone gives that kuleana of taking care of that makua.

    4. He licks his lips. “It wasn’t like that.”

Kai does sound really suspicious here. I wonder how he placated Longarm previously - did he make a deal with Longarm? And why is Maggie so paranoid and quick to assume the worst?
