    1. the natives were not protecting their lands in ways the colonists recognized, with fences, the Euro-Americans believed (or at least argued) Indians had no idea of land ownership.

Since the Native Americans didn’t protect their land with fences or other methods familiar to the colonists, the Euro-Americans claimed that the Indigenous people didn’t understand land ownership. This belief (or argument) became part of how colonists justified taking their land.

    2. However, alliance with the Indians did not change the outcome of the Seven Years War for France in 1763, as we will see in a bit. The French still lost all their North American territory to the British and Spanish

Even though France formed alliances with the Native Americans, it didn’t alter the outcome of the Seven Years' War in 1763. In the end, France still lost all its North American lands to the British and Spanish. We’ll explore more about this soon.

    3. The Spanish established the first permanent European settlement on the North American coast in St. Augustine, Florida,  in 1565

It’s interesting to learn that the Spanish founded the first permanent European settlement in North America as early as 1565 in St. Augustine, Florida. It’s amazing to think about how long ago that was and how it shaped the early history of the continent.

    4. Louis XIV. Known as “the Sun King,” Louis XIV occupied the French throne for 72 years, from 1643 when he became emperor at age 4 after his father’s passing, to his death in 1715. By the 1680s, Louis had greatly improved France’s influence in the world and had increased the power of the monarchy

It’s fascinating to think about how Louis XIV ruled for 72 years, especially since it’s so different from what we see today, where leaders don’t typically stay in power for that long. Starting at just 4 years old and still managing to strengthen France and the monarchy by the 1680s really shows how significant his reign was.
