    1. I’ve been blessed. While I had a very positive reaction from my priests, I know others who have experienced the complete opposite. They were told that they are sinners, evil or that they’re not Catholic. One of my best friends was even physically carried out of church during Mass after being refused Communion.

This statement just tells us how difficult it is to change the church and how difficult it is to still be accepted into the church because of their sexuality. It's cool to see that they are finally being accepted into the church and how the church is changing to accommodate for things they haven't accepted in the past.

    2. I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about being transgender. Our lives are no different than anyone else’s. We live, we work, we pray. We have families.

I think this line speaks a lot of truth. No matter what we are all human and we shouldn't be judged or looked at differently just because of our different views and way of life.

    1. Judge righteously, and do not respect persons in reproving for transgressions.

I like this because today we judge everyone for no reason. But here it tells us to judge who needs to be judged and to not respect anyone who is complaining about their transgressions.

    2. Let your alms sweat in your hands, until you know to whom you should give.

This part stuck out to me. To me it means be careful of whom you give and save your charity until you know who you should give to.

    1. a community of interchange encourages its members to expand their partial perspectives and form a new unified vision.

I have mixed feelings about this part. I agree that if you interchange interests and other visions of the world it may grow into one unified vision. But the truth is not everyone wants to come together and some are not wiling to compromise with others.

    2. So much of our world seems to be in fragments, in disjointed pieces. So much of human life is passed in isolation or in hostility. The division between rich nations and poor nations continues to grow; the contrast between northern and southern regions of our planet becomes ever more marked and intolerable

This little part really stuck out to me. It's kind of crazy to me that when this was written almost 25 years ago it truly translates to the world, we live in now. With how aware they were then it surprises me that not much has seemed to change.

    1. The plain fact is that you graduating seniors do not yet have any clue what “day in day out” really means. There happen to be whole, large parts of adult American life that nobody talks about in commencement speeches. One such part involves boredom, routine and petty frustration.

This part stuck out to me because no matter how ready and how much we think we know about the adult life there is still so much more to learn. That applies to pretty much everything. No matter how much we know of something there is still much more to learn.

    2. the exact same experience can mean two totally different things to two different people, given those people’s two different belief templates and two different ways of constructing meaning from experience.

I like when he says this because it is completely true. No matter what happens and what situations we encounter we all look at it differently and have our own reactions to them.
