Were they really leaving because of states' rights, or because they believed slavery wasn't being protected anymore? After reading this document, I think slavery was the main issue, and South Carolina believed compromise had already failed.

Reading this made me realize Washington was already worried about political parties dividing the country. I didn't know leaders were already thinking about this before the government was even very old.
