    1. I signed up for an Advanced Placement class on social science research.

I took two research classes in high school and it also expanded my love for research. I enjoy the organization and knowledge that can come with it.

    1. Life is everywhere, it’s relevant to everyone, and we need multiple perspectives to understand better what it means to define it one way or another for ourselves and others.

Understanding that life can't be described in simple terms is comforting in a way, it allows people to define it the way they like and what suits them the best. It also allows people to better understand multiple perspectives to discover themselves.

    1. These scientists dedicate their lives to addressing these challenges through research, education, and advocacy in their areas of expertise. Scientists are, for example, developing strategies to capture CO2 from the

I don't think the media credits the scientists enough for what they are doing. Allowing those stereotypes to be made, I think there needs to be more recognition because we got where we are today because of scientists. Scientists should be the most humane people, they should be trying to help and progress the people.

    1. Looking back, I have great appreciation for my advisor who really encouraged me to use those classes as an opportunity to explore something new

Reading about his experiences taking different classes inspires me to explore a plethora of classes. The number of perspectives that can be gained is helpful.

    1. They are innumerable and sometimes so subtle and seemingly natural that they can be difficult to see. The people who draw on them, however, who may or may not be humanities majors, are easy to identify. People with a humanities perspective tend to think about their local context by also looking far beyond it, at the entire world and even the farthest reaches of space.

When I think of humanities I think of "why" questions, I see it as digging deeper and deeper. Trying to find the origins of what something came from.

    1. Through the artist’s perspective, a legal problem like eviction can be reframed as a human problem that we as a society feel called to address.

There is definitely a more human connection that comes from the artist perspective. It's softer in a way that it allows people to understand people.

    1. It creates shifts in perception, attitudes, and thoughts by allowing us to make connections.

I think art creates the strongest emotional connection for people. You're able to understand them inside and out if they share that part of them. Either from their own art or their interpretation.

    1. when the path along which someone is looking changes, the appearance of the thing being looked at also changes. The implications of this realization are tremendous.

Viewing perspective in this way makes the action more meaningful. Perspective is a purposeful action when done right.

    1. What are some ways that each perspective might be relevant to your major(s), minor(s), career, or personal life?

I think all of the perspectives would be applied to my major, my major is focused around sciences but I believe a big foundation for it is just humanity itself and understanding people.

    1. In doing this exercise I became increasingly nervous I was reflecting in the wrong way. I had bullet points, lists, drawings, half-formed paragraphs. Was this bad? Did it make sense?

I get worried about not doing something the right way. I aim to get things perfect, cookie cutter perfect, but understanding that everyone has their own way of doing things could help self-doubt and allow better reflection.

    1. Maybe my life would have been just as great if I had become a writer or a performer. I guess I will never know. But I am thankful every day that I took a chance and followed my curiosity. Being a geologist rocks!

Taking that jump is terrifying but it can be beneficial for some, I think it's important to go through the pros and cons and just do what makes you the most happy.

    1. Do you see how curiosity is key to getting to know new people and to being successful at the UA?

It allows you to ask questions and form connections with people. Getting out of your shell and just speaking your mind is important.

    1. What you wonder has value. It can shape your academic studies, provide guidance for your career, and — as in the above example — enhance your personal life and interests.

Everything that is in our lives now comes from someone just wondering and having curiosity. I want to be more intentional with my thinking because it could possibly change to world. Only if I'm really intentional and gain more knowledge.

    1. At the end of the day, we are all human

This is something that I always think to myself. Why politics and overall how the world acts makes me so frustrated. Why has there always been discourse? We are all human, we all want to survive. Yes we can be competitive but not to the point where we're killing one another, its horrible. We're all human but if someone doesn't have the same view as us they're treated less than human.

    1. There are services on campus like tutors from the Think Tank, Counseling and Psych Services, Student Assistance for students in crisis, Disability Resource Center accommodations, and an array of cultural centers that provide support and community to their students.

Knowing that these type of services are available at UA makes me really appreciate and respect the university more. I can really understand that they want what is best for the students, I have also noticed that the staff are the same way. Overall UA is really aware of struggles that students can go through and I am thankful that they see us as people.

    1. “Who has ever felt like the person who ends up doing everyone’s work at the last minute?” All but one or two hands go up

Reading this statement made me laugh. The amount of times I had to pick up the slack from my fellow classmates because they didn't want to put in the effort needed to get an A is a lot. I feel like there's a handful of people that actually do this so reading that everyone raised their hand just seems silly to me. So far I think I am good in group settings I tend to be a leader and assigning projects to my group, what I lack is patience, I need to be better at teaching and also showing what is needed for an A rather than taking over.

    1. who are committed to serving historically underrepresented people in higher education

One of the main reason's I came to UA was because of the free tuition for the Indigenous people, the reasoning behind it is heartwarming and makes me thankful that people are recognizing us and wanting to give back. I personally feel supported and respected on campus, especially compared back at my high school. It's a different atmosphere and I don't feel totally in place yet but I will find my place soon.

    1. I don’t remember all the courses’ content, but I remember how they made me feel confident in my own writing style and that my creative interpretations of assignments were not only valued, but encouraged

I have come to the realization that I am lacking this type of support. This is my first semester of college and I am doing well, I am getting good grades so far and I'm handling the course work well but I just don't feel as if I am getting enough feedback to improve myself. I think in order to get this I should be more proactive and ask my teachers to give me feedback and ask where I can improve or what specifically I am doing well on, instead of "good work" or "good job"

    1. when you are in motion — your goals, thoughts, actions — you are positively affecting someone

I have nieces and nephews, I also have a younger sister, I see their eyes and I know they're listening to me... they really do inspire me and make me want to be better. They're definitely my motivation for being a better person. I want to be the best role model possible and show them they can do anything. I need to remind myself about this more.

    1. I’ve learned to live in the moment and redefine what success is.

I think this needs to be addressed more, at such a young age we're told to figure out our future and what we want to do or where we want to be. I believe this is good to do to an extent but myself and many other people I have met are anxious about the future and don't know how to start. Living in the moment and learning about yourself is important to be able to enjoy the future. I want to work on this.

    1. My parting question for you is, “Who’s in your group and how do you learn from each other?”

I don't have a group yet but this chapter made me understand the importance of a group. It allows you to feel connected to a community, it puts you in a place that makes you feel accepted. It reinforces what you already know about yourself.

    1. The thought of having a record of my life was so romantic and quaint to me,

Romanticizing life this makes life not as hard in my opinion. The author establishing this connection makes it feel more personal reading this section of the chapter.

    1. On the surface, none of these jobs I have had are “relevant work experience” in relation to my current career as an educator.

We spend a large part of our life working, I wish there was a way to spend that time doing more meaningful things that would help our future career or help discover what we want to do.

    1. How is it relevant to my life?

I understand that the book is supposed to help us as students understand how to go through university but also applying the basic skills to everyday life is useful.
