    1. It was not the only disappointment my mother felt in me.

      The author was expected to be this perfect daughter. All these activities being forced on her by her mother eventually worsened the relationship between them.

    2. She snapped off the TV, yanked me by the arm and pulled me off the floor. Shewas frighteningly strong, half pulling, half carrying me towards the piano as I kicked the throw rugs undermy feet. She lifted me up onto the hard bench.

      Her mother was trying to force the author to be someone she's not to the point where she had to force her physically. yikes!

    3. I felt the shame of my mother and father as they sat stiffly through the rest ofthe show.

      She embarrassed herself in front of a crowd and on top of that, she felt like she had disappointed her mother and father. I can't imagine how that must've been like.

      I don't think the author should be surprised that she messed up. She slacked off when practicing and it reflected back onto her performance in front of an audience.

      Her mother saw a flaw in this nine year-old a nitpicked about it. This means that she probably holds her daughter at a much higher standard.

      I can relate to the author because whenever you look in the mirror, it's like a one on one with yourself and helps regulate your emotions.

      Some of these tests seemed unnecessary, but I get that the mother was just trying to expose any hidden talents.
