      1. What does "historicity" and "racial epidermal schema" mean?

According to World Encyclopedia,"historicity" is the historical actuality of people and events, the quality of being a part of history opposed to being a historical myth, legend, or fiction. It's focused on the truth values of knowledge claims about the past".

"Racial epidermal schema is the immediately manifest intelligibility of blackness or showing up as such." (Academia 2)

      1. What does "Black-Blanc-Beur" mean?

"Black-Blanc-Beur is an expression in French that became popular in the 1990s. It refers to multi-ethnic France. Beur is a term to refer to French children of immigrants of North African ancestry." (Ambafrance 1)

    1. I really couldn't believe that Serena didn't find Wozniacki's imitation of her offensive. Stuffing your shirt and pants with towels prancing around on national television mocking someone isn't exactly playful to me. You're still making fun of someone. It was pretty tasteless and ignorant in my opinion. I didn't take it as a joke, making fun of someone isn't funny.

    2. I really enjoyed the assignment for DOG 1. We were supposed to go to a place that we found safe and comforting. I chose Lake Merritt because I come here to clear my mind and often just to sit by the lake. Its very relaxing and besides that the view is beautiful. I live for spectacular views. Its just a calm feeling that I get here that I never seem to get anywhere else. This place brings me peace. There were a lot of people at the lake. People were working out, exercising, and jogging. I loved to see that because I had just come from the gym myself. I love working out and I believe in staying physically fit. I saw people that were out with their families and just casually walking the lake. I saw a lot of people that looked like they were coming from work. Some people were in groups and some people were alone. All the people coming from work were all in their 40’s which was very interesting. I saw a few people sun bathing, and one girl that sat in the grass to eat a salad. There was a homeless man laying in the grass not too far from me, he looked so relaxed. Every human being here looked content, no one looked like they were having a bad time.

    1. 7.Describe how Serena Williams reacted to the tennis chair umpire in 2004 YouTube video of the US Open. In what ways did these “bad calls” communicate aspects of unfairness and injustice? the “performance of blackness”?

Serena reacted just like any other person would. She looked confused, angry, hurt and disappointed. The tennis chair was deliberately making false calls. Everyone saw that her balls were fair. These calls communicate injustice because they were made out of hate. She was fair to Jennifer Capriati.

      1. How would you interpret the “anger” displayed by Serena Williams in the 2009 YouTube video of the US Open? Do you believe this was a “fair” decision by the line judge? What do you make of this event?

Serena seemed fed up with being treated unfairly and receiving bad calls. Athletes often get angry with referees so I'm not sure why she was thrown out of the game for this. The woman was obviously threatened by Serena's gestures and skin color. So ridiculous. It was unfair of the judge to throw Serena out of the game when players do the same and never get penalized. They took the woman's word without any evidence.
