    1. Men, you are brothers; why do you wrong each other?

interesting to consider the idea that just because you are family you shouldn't be wronging one another -- not that you should be wronging anyone at all, family or not, but i think it's interesting that the idea of family is a justification for not wronging someone

    2. mistreat them during four hundred years. 7 ‘But I will judge the nation that they serve,

it is interesting to think about how god allows for this mistreatment and places judgement only for the afterlife, as if suffering in the real world doesn't matter enough to stop it and life in the real world is less meaningful

    1. Then they secretly instigated some men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words

"secretly instigated some men to say" feels like we are meant to believe that the jews are liars and wrong in thinking this

    2. set up false witnesses

makes it seem like those who are saying things against jesus is false too, meaning that they shouldn't believe what negative comments people are saying about jesus

    1. bound him for a thousand years

it is interesting to think about how the angel controls the devil in this situation rather than the two living/controlling their own individual lives

    2. Fear God

is fear truly the best way to hold power over the people? interesting to consider they preach to fear god but also preach to avoid violence -- so are they truly pacifists if they want people to live in fear?

    3. Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honour and glory and blessing!

I think perhaps through suffering you can show your character in the way you respond and whether or not it is "Godly"

    4. for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and people and nation

this is interesting to read because it relates to the idea that you must suffer in order to be a true follower of God, and I just question the reasoning behind that and why it is alluded to here as well

    1. but those who are wise shall understand.

I think this is interesting because it makes it seem like the wise are only those who understand God's doings and follow the idea of being righteous and doing good in life

    2. Many shall be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked shall continue to act wickedly.

a sense of safety that aligns with the idea that no matter what God will do the right thing to those who deserve it

    1. for I have now been sent to you.

I wonder for what reason does this angel say they are sent to him -- maybe just a way to act like the future conflict they endured made sense

    1. Now are you any better than King Balak son of Zippor of Moab? Did he ever enter into conflict with Israel, or did he ever go to war with them?

I think it is so interesting that a question like this was ever probed by someone because it goes against their norms of wanting to conquer land and selfish acts of war in the name of God. I feel like he is unique in thinking this way and that's why the Ammonites did not engage with him.

    2. lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.

I don't think the sacrifice was seen in a positive way, rather that the vow is seen as foolish considering the way they went around him doing it at first

    3. Let the Lord, who is judge, decide today for the Israelites or for the Ammonites.

He puts so much faith into the Lord which makes him seem like a noble man because doesn't seem to act selfishly by simply allowing the Lord to make the decision

    4. and the Lord gives them over to me, I will be your head.”

It is interesting because he feels betrayed by them and won't be their commander if they ask, but will do what they want as long as the Lord says so, even though he does feel betrayed by these people nevertheless

    1. ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

If he has sacrificed his son, he wouldn't have had any descendants to carry on his legacy which is so special considering he is the founder of ancient israelite religion.

    2. obeyed

He obeyed his voice by almost sacrificing his son, which I think is a horror that is not mitigated by the fact that God had no intention for it to happen. It is still a fear tactic he used as power and instils the idea that if it is in the name of God, religious violence is okay– which it shouldn't be.
