Responding to student writing efforts is a point where great help can be offered, or it can become a point where great harm is done.
I find this to be true in all aspects of communication, esp. with children.

Our mantra: How we talk to each other in the classroom makes all the difference to the learning that goes on.
I think it's so important to acknowledge that it's not just about listening and learning, but about how individuals communicate throughout class time--when entering the room, talking between rows, after class, etc.
