      Job posting scammers often ask a victim to cash a check for something, sometimes an amount in excess of a payment, then send a check to cover the difference. The victim attempts to deposit the scammer’s phony check, and it bounces, usually after the scammer has already cashed the victim’s valid check.

      The most popular scam I will wire you a check to pay for expenses, so I will pay you before the job is complete, this money is for your gas, food, and suppies needed for the job all you have to do is place this check in your account. #fieldguide

      You know you need to do your research on an employer to wow them in the interview. But if you can’t find any online information about the company or your point of contact—if the company doesn’t have a website or mentions on Glassdoor, or your contact isn’t on LinkedIn—that’s an indicator things might not be on the up and up.

      Glassdoor is where many look for jobs but there are times when other adds pop up which seem more like eye candy and some people don't take the time to do the research if you can't Google search it many times it isn't real. #fieldguide

      The ad scammer’s job is not to formulate a believable job description, but to persuade as many suckers as possible to take the bait. If you can’t tell what you’d be doing, or what you need to be considered qualified, that’s a telltale sign that the ad is a fake.

      They persuade many suckers because once i was so desperate to get a job that I was in alot of the scammers jobs. No clear description and so many loop holes that were never filled. It took me going to the interview to figure out that it was a scam. #fieldguide

      Bait and Switch ScamsWith this scam, you apply for a job and are selected for an interview. During the interview, you discover that the job you applied for doesn't exist and the company tries to interest you in a completely different position.​

      Very common you will see a job that falls under a customer service position but once you call they have nothing to tell you because they want you to come in for an interview. Once you do the interview you find out you will be doing door to door sales maybe working in a home depot as a Fios rep or even going door to door selling knives making 18 dollars per item you sell. The best one is the perfume sales you drive all over and go into a parking lot and harrass people with fake perfume you sell for ten dollars and make about 3 dollars per sale. #fieldguide

      The salary details aren't clear. If the company doesn't pay an hourly rate or a salary, carefully investigate the details.

      There are so many jobs that don't have a clear salary detail and beat around the bush. One may say that you will get paid hourly then it will state you get commission. #fieldguide

      You are told you have to pay for training.

      This is one of the biggest scams out there because you get an interview and then you're told you are hired. Once you get the job that is when you find out that you have to pay for training before starting the job. This gets you really thinking but you really need a job and the pay is amazing. Once you pay for the training you never hear from that job ever again. #fieldguide
