    1. Our students today are all “native speakers” of the digital language of computers, video games and the Internet.

We have no choice but to be native speakers of digital language because of the way we live and our world today. If I had a choice, I would much rather not have any of what we have today and live how my parents did in the 80s. Phones are becoming smarter than the people using them unfortunately.

    1. Distraction occurs, the authors argue, when we are pursuing a goal that really matters and something blocks our efforts to achieve it.

when we're doing something we like to do we're of course not going to get distracted. Everyone is different in what they find 'fun'.

    2. I have felt stuck at an impasse on the challenge of how to handle these digital distractions.

it is hard to stay away from social media and using technology when our schools and educators are using more and more of it every day to teach students.

A whole society (the roots), running from one place (that one flower stem). We can connect that back to the Man previously spoken about. One Man is many men together in a society.

    1. I was a German and philosophy double major. At first glance, what could be more useless? And yet, my professional life has proven such a conclusion wrong.

This is a fear of many college students. What we may be interested in and want to pursue, we might not end up going forward with it due to the chances of never finding a job and making a sustainable salary.

    1. They don’t necessarily believe that anyone can become an Einstein or a Mozart, but they do understand that even Einstein and Mozart had to put in years of effort to become who they were.

This connects back to the point I made earlier about having to work for what you want. It took Einstein and Mozart years of hard work and building to get where they got.

    2. They expect success because they’re special, not because they’ve worked hard.

I disagree. Some may believe this but, it also depends on how you were raised. I was raised to work hard for what I wanted and then success would come. How else would you get anywhere in this world without working for what you wanted?

    1. And at a place like M.I.T., you’re surrounded by brilliance, which can make you question whether you belong.

Of course it would make you question if you belong or not, but it takes time to adjust and get used to a new job setting. I personally would not let the people who have experience, impede on my ability to succeed.

    2. This advice assumes that we all have a pre-existing passion waiting to be discovered. If we have the courage to discover this calling and to match it to our livelihood, the thinking goes, we’ll end up happy. If we lack this courage, we’ll end up bored and unfulfilled — or, worse, in law school.

Sometimes you only truly find your "passion" once you've experienced classes and life in general. You can't expect to find something you LOVE within a few months. Passion takes time to develop.

This can explain the life of an average college student. Having more than one option for a career path is somewhat necessary to figure out what you truly want to do with your life.
