under what circumstances would I be willing to resume watching the NFL?
I know many people who felt like this. They love sports and so they were torn between a boycott and seeming unconcerned about the racism in the nfl and police brutality. u

I wish that officers were trained in deescalation techniques, so that they wouldnt equate safety with force
Now the White House is moving ahead with an absurd and misguided plan to place guns in teachers’ hands—in close proximity of our students.
This gives us some clue as to the occasion of this writing. Need to check the date and maybe ressearch what happened in March 2018 that relates to guns and education. Was it a school shooting around this time?
I was shot and left for dead.
Now we learn the author himself was shot....
An in-law was gunned down at his front door by police responding to a “Black burglar.” He was fortunate to live. In college, my roommates were threatened by shotgun-toting White student. When my Black roommates complained to the Pennsylvania State Police, the police chose not to investigate. The man I replaced in my first job as principal had actually been shot in the halls of one of our local high schools.
This entire paragraph is a series of long sentences then a short one. Creates tension. We learn the speaker is a principal. Damn, the former principal was shot in the halls at one of the local high schools-- was gang violence a problem?

The speaker works with students or is an educator.

Many teachers, especially K-12, in this quick shift to digital learning caused by the pandemic, minimized the importance of engagement tools, tools that foster learning and tech tools and apps that can do both. As adults, distance work can be appealing to us because it is convenient, potentially saving us time; but for children, distance learning can become a source of isolation. I have encountered several colleagues who "forgot" how many students, high school students no less, may thrive in environments where learning is social.
