    1. n any given year between 1891 and 1928, less than 3% of the total amount of those seeking entry to the United States were actually rejected for reasons of a contagious, infectious, or loathsome disease; mental disorder; or physical dis- ability.

For all 'm aware of as an immigrant, people no longer get denied entry because of the state if their health, however, measures are being put in place to curb the spread or even treat the disease e.g quarantine of COVID-19 patients, treatment of Tubercolosis before arrival, yellow fever vaccination etc. It only makes sense that these measures are in place as some disease are truly more prevalent in some countries than the other.

    2. he separation of state and federal powers over public health administration was a hotly contested issue in New York Harbor. To accommodate these con- cerns, incoming ships were first inspected at the New York State Quarantine Sta- tion, off Staten Island, by state health officers, for evidence of the ‘“‘quaran- tinable” diseases including cholera, typhus fever,

Health examination is very important no matter where one is coming from. This still takes place today anyways. It is a great measure that it was done back in the days and it's still being carried out till now. And the fact that some were allowed to quarantine makes so much sense.

    3. es the U.S. Immigration Museum at Ellis Island opened in 1901. Built to process approximately 5,000 immigrants per day as well as to inspect them for physical, economic, mental, and moral fitness, by 1907 it was not uncommon for the facility to receive more than 10,000 immigrants on any given day and more than 500,000 annually.

I still feel there should be continuous evaluation especially for physical and mental health. The physical assessment could be done before or right after arrival into the united states while the mental examination should be done in three to six months after immigration as these is the range of time when immigrants face most of the challenges associated with immigration such as depression, isolation and loneliness.

    4. Drawing from an extensive array of metaphors and explanations, nativist rhetoric has, at different times, been based on claims of religious incompatibility, cultural backwardness,

Up until this day your original national identity has a long way to determine how you are being treated as an immigrant. A lot of Anti-immigrants till this feel that immigrants come in to take their jobs, bring in diseases and try to influence their culture. Some even believe that immigrants coming into the united states can lead to scarcity of natural environmental space.

    5. Since the early days of the republic, anti-immigrant sentiment has played a part in the forging, expansion, and consolidation of America.

The anti-immigrant sentiment has not only played a role in the early days of the republic, the sentiment remains till today. Some people (the anti-immigrant) oppose immigration because some feel it's a ground between them (foundational natives) and immigrant.

    1. Darwin thought that the mind was like any other characteristic, and that it evolved because it conferred a natural advantage on an animal, an idea he developed further in his book Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals published in 1872 – note that this is still seven years before the found-ing of the first psychology laboratory.

I agree that the mind evolved like every other characteristics simply because the mind is not separate from the body.

    2. Spencer applied this principle to psychology. He believed that voluntary behaviour was altered through the action of pleasure or lack of pleasure, and then frequently made associations were passed on to offspring. So for example, if you were to eat a lot of chocolate because it gives you pleasure, then you will produce offspring who also like to eat chocolate. Eating chocolate now will create chocoholic children.

I agree with this because if one derives pleasure from something, they are most likely to keep on doing it e.g our favorite hobbies, a career (that's why we find a family where everyone belongs to the same career field and when you ask them they tell you there were influenced by their parents) etc.

    3. James believed that whenever we carry out an action intentionally, that action lays down a pathway in the brain that, over time with repeated action, becomes deepened. These deepened pathways or habits then enabled a person to carry out the action without the necessity for thought. So, in practical terms, habits arise from repeated action and when those actions become automatic

I agree with this concept of habit as it's a practical things that we see in our day to day life e.g wearing our socks, brushing our teeth, taking off our clothes after work are some of the examples of things we do even without thinking about them and when we do them we don't even remember how and when we were doing them. another things is people who work in warehouses like amazon and have to pick boxes of different sizes from different locations; after working there for a while, they do not look to find the location of what box they're looking for, instead, they just pick, because the act has formed an habit within them.

    4. It is perfectly possible to have an emotional reaction without physio-logical change or behaviour

I somewhat agree that it is possible to have an emotional reaction without any physiological change because I find it hard not to exhibit any physiological change in terms of expressing emotions e.g whenever I'm angry I start to sweat and my heart starts to race however, there are people who don't exhibit such when angry and so on. So I'll only agree to an extent not fully.

    5. James identified two functions of consciousness which were, as he put it, obvious. One was that thought leads to action and the other that it leads to knowledge.

Does this also apply to the subconscious mind? Because sometimes human beings act on impulse (without premeditated thoughts).
