    1. here

My reflection: This was by far (I think) the longest reading from all of the other stories. Much easier to understand than the other stories, I was just confused with some of the words that were made up? Jonathan Swift has a lot of creativity. I would have never though of doing a business in a ship. A lot goes on after the shipwreck. He is kept for amusement and then sold to the queen.

    2. fourteen years old,

Okay, so while doing the writing project 3, I read that Roger Ascham attended college at the age of fourteen as well, but didn't quite understand if it was a true possible thing. So I guess it was possible back then.

    1. Im

my reflection: Very easy story to understand. A lot of racism and slavery involved. One of the really good quotes that stood out to me was the one that said "it is not titles that make men brave or good" and I think this really fit with the story.

    2. it is not titles make men brave or good; or birth that bestows courage and generosity, or makes the owner happy. Believe this,

While choosing a new leader, he tells them to look for different qualities in people. not just titles of people.

    3. His face was not of that brown rusty black which most of that nation are, but of perfect ebony, or polished jet. His eyes were the most awful that could be seen, and very piercing; the white of ’em being like snow, as were his teeth

describing his physical characteristics. good imagery description I think.

    1. a pretty table, and on it a wax candle burning

Such great imagery! i can really picture this in my head. a dark room with that pretty table in the back and only the candle giving light. is this what everyone else imagined?

    1. heart to her

My reflection; I do think some of the wording was confusing. I could guess the words out because they are written very similar and if you google them it shows a different word. I like how it brought a lot of Bible recognition. I also liked how it supported women but also didn't make them seem like a Godly figure, because there is only one God. I like this story way better than the previous evil one.

    1. o my God

My reflection: I see a pattern in these sonnets. It's a bunch of small sonnets telling a bigger story. Am I correct? falling in love, dying, giving birth, etc. I enjoyed several of these sonnets, especially because they were short and easy to understand.

    1. Epilogue

My reflection: Is this an actual play? Like where people can go see it? I thought this play was pretty interesting and freaky. I personally don't like anything that has to do with evil and the devil. But totally a different story from the others that we have read.

    2. Farewell

The good angel once again tries to stop Faustus from selling his soul to the devil but the evil angel convinces him to do it. He ends up doing in but then starts to think of God and wanting forgiveness.

    3. God forgive me

This play is freaky. Wagner persuades or tricks the clown into becoming his servant for years and shows him the devils that will take the clown to hell is he doesn't agree with being his servant. Then wants the clown to call him "Master Wagner"

    4. Exeunt

The good angel and evil angel visit Faustus. The good angel wants Faustus to put down the book and open up the bible instead. Whereas the evil angel encourages faustus to continue with the book of magic. Faustus wants to basically take control of everything.

    1. er i

Reflection: From what I understood, Faerie Queene represents Queen Elizabeth. This all sounds sort of like mythical stories, especially with the knights. There is so much action, romance and battles. It's like a kids fairy tale story just made a little longer. I believe the author has great imagination and he did an amazing job writing this.

    1. .

My reflection: This was a little hard to understand towards the end of the reading, but i loved the beginning when it was talking about how we should teach and learn. I looked this story up on Google and it said that the author was the first tutor of Princess Elizabeth (now Queen) and Queen Mary. This story is "based on his experience as a teacher". Very interesting!

    2. This is good stuff for wise men to laugh at or honest men to take pleasure at! Yet I know when God’s Bible was banished

People prefer to read other stuff because it is fun to read rather than to read of the Bible.

    3. And now choose you, you Italian Englishmen, whether you will be angry with us for calling you monsters, or with the Italians for calling you devils, or else with your own selves that take so much pains and go so far to make yourselves both.

Now I am confused. Why are people being judged in such a harsh way?

    4. e amiss and write too sore against you, hear what the Italian saith of the Englishman, what the master

Amiss means not quite right; inappropriate or out of place. So they judge you by writing of you and how you basically don't fit in?

    5. This is a lively and perfect way of teaching of rules ; where the common way used in common scholes, to read the grammar alone by itself, is tedious for the master, hard for the scholar, cold and uncomfortable for them both.

Love this! Actually teach students, don't make them memorize things for a while. It makes the job hard for teachers and students.

    1. governments

My reflection: This was a difficult reading. Sounds like everything was made up? It is was Utopia means? It has a lot of government involved in everything. Was the author really into government,or he only wrote this for fun?

    1. he rose to large practice in the law courts, where it is said he refused to plead in cases which he thought unjust, and took no fees from widows, orphans, or the poor.

Sounds like he was (or is?) a good lawyer.

    1. Amen

My reflection: I liked this story. Easier to understand, and it also relates to the previous story. I read this while working on the first writing project. I really liked how all characters correlate with everyman (humanity). I think that it does represent people in some way. Some people forget or don't care about God. I think this is by far my favorite story/poem.

    2. For and I leave the people thus alone In their life and wicked tempests, Verily they will become much worse than beasts

If God doesn't step in and help, people will keep on sinning therefore they will become "worse than beasts".

    3. To get them life I suffered to be dead; I healed their feet, with thorns hurt was my head

Talking about when Jesus died on the cross. He is saying that people don't care about him or what he did to save everyman.

    1. I came to the church.

My reflection: I must say, this reading was difficult to understand. The narrator (also the main character) falls into a deep and adventurous sleep. From what I understood, he is deciding between the truth and false. There's so many good biblical references said that helped him make his choice. I liked how the author wrote the story starting with the prologue then explaining the dream and then waking up after the dream.

    2. And if thou find any fellow · that any false man Or fortune hath injured · find how such to know! Comfort him with thy goods · for Christ’s love of Heaven, Love them and lend to them · so God’s law teacheth:

If i am correct, it is saying that if people do bad, still treat them good. Let God take care of them. If so, I like this quote. Whatever your beliefs are, treat people good. God has everything under control.

    1. s holy grace,

My reflection: This story is easier to understand. The summoner is just pure evil trying to take advantage of people. I can see him as the devil. The only way to be saved is through Jesus Christ. I noticed that all of the stories talk about God in some way.

    1. pence

My reflection; This was an interesting story. I noticed that the author used a lot of alliteration. I think the wife uses so many biblical references because she doesn't want to feel bad about her being with so many guys. I like how it described each husband independently.

    2. wives! 40 No man has such that in this world now lives. God knows, this noble king, it strikes my wit, The first night he had many a merry fit

I just noticed that there is some alliteration in this! If I am correct, the sentences end with " wives, lives. wit, fit. alive, five".

    1. Nicholas has burned his butt painfully.

My reflection; It was a good story, I just didn't like how the carpenter was being treated. I'm not a big fan of stories that talk about being unfaithful to their spouse, but you can tell that the author has some really good imagination.

    2. cuckold

Cuckold means a man whose wife is sexually unfaithful, often regarded as an object of derision. Basically it means that the wife is cheating but it also says " the man who has no wife". What does it mean then?

    1. And may God save all this fair company! Amen.

My reflection: i love that God was brought up in everything especially at the wedding of Palamon and Emily. I personally, religiously speaking, think that a having a relationship with God in your marriage is the best. I do think it's a typical love story where two people fall for the same girl and then we are all so anxiously waiting to see who she ends up with. I think the author did really good with the details.

    2. humble prayer within thy heart. Alas! I have no words in which to tell 1370 The effect of all the torments of my hell; My heavy heart its evils can’t bewray;

Has a humble prayer, but can't betray the evil she carries in her heart?
