    1. Thus was he handled for one year and ten months; after which time, by the advice of physicians, they began to carry him, and then was made for him a fine little cart drawn with oxen, of the invention of Jan Denio

This is a good representation of the size of the giant, even at a very young age he was huge, "little cart drawn with oxen" is a visual representation on how big he really is. However throughout many tales Gargantua varies in size in different stories, and even in different parts of the same stories. In some parts, the giant stands about 300 feet tall, but seems to reach heights up to 1,000 feet throughout the tale.

In this part of this story, this goes back to what was just said in the previous paragraph going back to the comical aspect of the story the author reiterates how insane or not probable this was. The sentence of "mother giving him her own milk" was the comical and little uncomfortable for the "tender ears".

    1. Painfully gained with long austerities: And they who, making silent sacrifice, Draw in their breath to feed the flame of thought, And breathe it forth to waft the heart on high, Governing the ventage of each entering air Lest one sigh pass which helpeth not the soul:

These lines consider the nature of limitations, spiritual practices, and breathing control in relation to reaching higher states of consciousness. These verses seem to describe people who participate in strong religious actions, which may include silent sacrifices, extended periods of meditation, and breath control. The quote "Draw in their breath to feed the flame of thought, And breathe it forth to waft the heart on high." is metaphorical language that stands for the ability to focus and elevate one's thoughts and emotions through breath control. Breathing in could be a symbol of reflection and focus, and exhaling could be a symbol of the release of higher and cleansed emotions.
