      If I could've highlighted the whole paragraph, I would. Also, "to live and to understand fully, we need not only proximity but also distance," is a great line. Through writing, the writer learns more about their subject and themselves. 'Writing is a learning process' has a double meaning. As writers, we reflect on the truth, as well as our versions of it, and discover the in-between bits that we use to write a holistic understanding.

      Lol, it's quite literally a cycle. That or writing, print, spoken word, and computers are intrinsically linked. It's impossible to leverage one over the other, as all are needed in a constantly shifting society.

      Interesting. The credibility of spoken knowledge, passed down through communal accounts (i.e. wives' tales etc.), is increasingly discounted as we move towards establishing the written word as truth. Ex: textbooks, manuals, etc. Knowledge is liberating, and the access to and popularization of written word is threatening to those in power.
