I didn’t in the first debate, and I’m going to try not to in this debate, because I’d like to get to the questions that the people have brought here tonight to talk to us about.
Clinton really goes after the audience right here. She shows that she wants to listen and she wants to answer the audience questions. As Americans and as people we want to be heard and listened to and I think she does a very good job using this situation to pursue the undecided voters.

Trump continuously attacks Hillary instead of adressing his own issues. I feel as though it hurts his ethos.

This is a frustrating and confusing statement to the listeners because Trump contiunously tells us what he is going to do but fails to tell the audience how he is going to do it. SO are those just words as well?
Yes, I’m very embarrassed by it. I hate it. But it’s locker room talk, and it’s one of those things. I will knock the hell out of ISIS. We’re going to defeat ISIS. ISIS happened a number of years ago in a vacuum that was left because of bad judgment. And I will tell you, I will take care of ISIS.
Trump attempts to make up for what he says by pushing it to the side and instead points to a very fresh wound for our country and pushing his ethos on that topic of letting himself get hit by the past comments he has made.
I want to be the president for all Americans, regardless of your political beliefs, where you come from, what you look like, your religion. I want us to heal our country and bring it together because that’s, I think, the best way for us to get the future that our children and our grandchildren deserve.
Clinton is not addressing the question and ends focusing more on her own campaign. Although it may frustrate the audience that she did not directly adress it, she is using the opportunity of starting the debate off to push her ethos and become likeable to the audience and connect with them by being inclusive and direct.
Loneliness is an invisible epidemic that affects 60 million Americans
Important to recognize how huge the problem is. If this issue is so big why haven’t we been raising awareness?
If you know someone who’s lonely and you want to help, here are some of White’s suggestions: Don’t text. Use the phone. If you leave a message and don’t get a return call, call back. Set up something low-key, like a walk. Keep the emotional temperature low. Don’t diminish what the lonely person is going through. Recognize that you may have to do more work to get the same level of response that you would get from another friend.
Even if we do not experience loneliness or feel that we experience it we should still be made aware that it is a serious issue. We should be made aware on how to address those who are experiencing the pain of loneliness and how to help them heal.
A therapist can help, especially if loneliness is accompanied by feelings of anxiety or depression. “Loneliness promotes secrecy and distrust,” says White. “If you find someone outside of your social circle…you can talk really openly.”
Another great way to take action against loneliness by helping students feel comfortable and in an enviroment with no ties to their social life and being able to express openly to someone who has no idea of their persona around their friends or family.
Feeling lonely is not the same as being alone. “For some people, even though they have what on the outside looks like a social world, their internal experience is loneliness,”
This statement relates back to my other article when they talk about loneliness and knowing " the discrepancy between an individual’s desired and actual relation-ships (8) " It is not so much that being alone is bad it is distinguishing what is healthy for the personality type and what is unhealthy.

This is the second article that has talked about understanding what loneliness is but fails to talk about how we can implement resources for people to understand what it is.

This author establishes his credibility extremely well by naming credible sources that have done studies to back up these theories. It does more than relay the information, it tells the reader where the initial information for the statement comes from.

If loneliness is a leading cause for early death and dementia than there is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
The brain goes into a self-preservation state that brings with it a lot of unwanted effects.”
When the brain goes into this state it is not something that we recognize. We can recognize when we get a cut or a bruise because we feel the pain that comes with them. But in this case it is internal not external which is not recognizable to the human body as physical pain until it leads to physical issues later in life. Another reason it needs recognition.

Another great analogy. Great use of something that everyone experiences to explain the effects of something not everyone experiences.

This is the exact reason why we need to raise awareness in our society ! Nobody knows the effects of loneliness because they cannot see it nor feel it. It is a silent killer. Damaging our health without our recognition. It increases risks without us doing anything intentional. We are told what we will do to our bodies if we drink alcohol or do drugs. Why are we not told what is happening to our bodies from mental health issues such as loneliness? We are told that it is important to maintain good mental health but it is not explained.

This sounds like a great opportunity for improvement and a great resource for those who are lonely but we must make sure they are aware of their resources. Which means having resources such as those available for adults and adolescents whether that is at school or in the work place.
Understand that Loneliness is not a Fact, it is Just a Feeling
They are stating that people with loneliness need to understand that it is not a fact, just a feeling. How are those affected supposed to understand if they are not even informed on the effects and the causes of their loneliness. If we expect people to understand it, we must first make them aware.
There is a close relation between loneliness and sleep and even minute difference in the level of loneliness has an effect on sleep. It has been seen that lonely individuals experience more trouble with sleep.
Sleep is another important aspect of development in adolescent and it is important we address this cause of lack of sleep.
It can induce alcoholism, make a person suicidal and increase the risk of mental health disorders.
Although this statement does not have an experiment or article to give credibility to, this remark it does make sense. With depression and loneliness so directly related it makes sense that loneliness would induce a depressant. Since loneliness is a possible alcohol inducer it should be mentioned in alcohol education that is enforced by almost all universities and public schools.
With the advancement of social media, people have become more engrossed in virtual communities and online friendships and are becoming less interested in maintaining real life social ties with family members, friends and neighbours. But research shows that spending too much time on social networking sites can backfire and actually make people feel lonelier.
While this may be partially true the article that I previously shared, does counter this statement.
Loneliness and depression are closely related.
This is a statement that has so far been universally agreed upon between all of the articles, and by multiple different professors, psychologists, and journalists.
But, with time, loneliness and lack of companionship makes people vulnerable which affects physical and mental health to increases the chances of mental health disorders.
It is good that the author included a link within this statement because it helps give information and expand on this claim.
Loneliness has increased with modernization, since people are engrossed in virtual social communities and networks and don’t have the urge to attend social gathering or stay in touch with family and friends.
This statement is making a claim against social media that it is a cause for loneliness and that it causes one to not want to formally interact with friends and family but this article disagrees completely.
So what is true?
But if we take a moment to stand and think about our relations and friendships, how many of us enjoy true companionship?
Good question for an audience to think about. Starts by addressing those reading to take a look at their own lives which could immediately shift the perspective right off the bat.

I believe that the authors are trying to target a younger audience and inform them of the risks at an early age. I do not think they are trying to touch an older audience because this information will not be as beneficial to them since their claim is that the affects that loneliness will have on a person are developed young.

Exactly why awareness is needed. One possible solution is implementing this in required health classes around the time of important development in young adults.

They establish their claim that serious health risks will occur later in life but the minor ones will develop at a young age. While the damages may not be urgent at a young age, they are important to address early on to those prone to loneliness in order to make sure that they can take action in order to prevent further destruction.

We examined how loneliness relates to social anxiety, paranoia, and depression symptoms ina general community sample aged 18–87 years old (N1,010). We administered online measures over3 time points across a 6-month period.
Throughout this article the authors remained unbiased and kept their main focus on their data and information retrieved on loneliness and its relationship with anxiety,depression and paranoia. They stick to their facts and remain straightforward with their audience.They continue to build logos, which becomes their main source of credibility.

To back up there statements they perform an experiment to show how loneliness is linked with paranoia and anxiety. Their method is another way that they provide logos to the audience and appear credible. Giving an elaborate explanation makes it easy for the audience to understand.

With depression being one of the most common mental health issues in todays society, this is a reason why we should raise awareness. We often recognize depression but we do not recognize the heart of the issue which is, loneliness.

With loneliness being extremely linked to social anxiety we could easily raise the awareness of loneliness while informing those with social anxiety. Since the two are linked together, both can be talked about in reference to each other. Those diagnosed with social anxiety should be aware that they are more prone to loneliness.

In the beginning of the article we are given the authority on which they speak on. They appeal to the audiences logos by not only giving information on their university background but also following those statements with accomplishments and where they have ended up. These statements expanded their credibility.

This statement is validated by the Charles Walker who appears in the video who is a Psychologist at UT Health Northeast. This new story does not talk about the genes that my other article talks about but it does talk about the consequences and effects of loneliness and isolation.
The lonelier volunteers’ genes tended to be more inflamed compared with those at the opposite end of the scoring scale. Too much inflammation can damage tissues and cause disease. Other genes, known to be important in fighting viruses and producing immune antibodies, were also less active compared with the non-lonely volunteers.
In this study they state that loneliness actually effects the human genome causing inflammation. That sounds like it could be true but with the lack of information on who performed this study I am not fully convinced. I agree with their earlier statement that loneliness increases the risk of illness. Compared to Serial Undisclosed is much more straight forward with the information and targets to the audience in a much easier format. They show very little bias and opinion and focus more on the straight forward facts.

Members of the mosque had donated lots of money to help pay her, but Shamim says that toward the end of the second trial, Cristina had begun to bully them about money. This really made me question the credibility and effort of Gutierrez. I do believe she needs to be paid a reasonable amount for her work on the case but I also believe that as a defense attorney her focus should remain on the case and Adnan as the trial is occurring and in this particular section and continuing it seems she is extremely focused on the money and not justice. This really makes me believe that Adnan deserves someone who is really going to fight for him.
They had various witnesses talking about what happened at the homecoming dance or how the relationship was secret.
This particular sentence frustrated me because I want to know who these "various witnesses" were. Was it only classmates of Adnan and Hae? In High School there is gossip about relationships that are often wrongly misconstrued. So it makes me question the credibility of theses "witnesses" as well.
And I still don’t believe that by the way. But I didn’t wanna write off what Shamim was saying either, because maybe anti-Muslimness crept in, contributed in some way to how the investigation and the prosecution operated. Advertently or inadvertently.
Koenig shows an immense amount of credibility right here by saying that although she doesn't believe that the jury had motive in discrimination she still "doesn't write off" what Shamim was saying in case of later discovery. I think that shows great effort in her part to try and be open to other possibilities and to not be bias.
Philippines leader curses Obama; White House cancels meeting
This intrigued me because in our society we are surrounded by people who are ready to throw insults and shade around but not many people are ready to stand up to it. I think that Obama is someone who clearly deserves respect and I think it was honorable for him to do what he needed to do to show that he deserved that and that it was incorrect behavior by the Philippines leader.
Women are as likely as men to ask for a pay rise - but are less likely to get one, the research found.
This is controversial topic between some people. This article is stating that Women do not get paid as much as men nor do they get pay raises like men but in the past I have heard many people disagree with this statement. I believe that in order to make an argument on whether or not this statement is true we need to be able to identify research and references such as this article. Depending on how one has grown up this statement can bring different assumptions in people with different exposure.
Researchers Confront an Epidemic of Loneliness
This title drew me in not only because of the issue the article discusses but because of the reporters word choice. Katie Hafner uses the word "confront" which already makes an extremely powerful point within the first few words of the article. I think that Hafners decision in using this word was smart because mental illness is often avoided and many times we beat around the bush on the topic. It almost gives the statement of "finally researchers are bringing our attention to this" without even saying it.
I see many problems with the state’s case. But then, I see many problems with Adnan’s story too. And so I start to doubt him, I talk to him and talk to him, and I start to doubt my doubts. And then I worry that I’m a sucker that I don’t know.
I gained not only a lot of trust for Koenig in this portion of the episode but I also gained a lot of respect for her as well. Koenig does not hide the fact that she has doubts and she does not hide the fact that she is imperfect and she does not hide the fact that half the time she really doesn't know what she is doing. She is simply human and she embraces that and I think that takes a lot of courage especially in a position like hers as a reporter. This portion made me really trust her and her feelings towards the case and I'm excited to here her input in the episodes to come and to see what conclusion she ends up having.

This short introduction to this article drew me in extremely fast. Although I have definitely seen the way money can affect people I never got to dig deeper to fully understand why or how. Money has such a huge impact on our lives now a day I believe that it is important to recognize the way it affects us as individuals.
Science Says Pizza Can Make You More Productive at Work
This is definitely a header that is targeted to almost everyone ever. Who doesn't like pizza right? Who doesn't want to have an excuse to eat more pizza? These few notions are obvious reasons why they chose this particular title. Im hooked by the time they say pizza.
The storm, spinning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico, threatens to slam into the Panhandle area or just south of it after midnight, bringing heavy rain and possible dangerous storm surges.
After beginning this article I was really drawn in by the structure of this sentence. The vocabulary that was used was extremely intriguing and intense making for a strong start to the writers article. It kept me engaged and wanting to learn about this "slamming hurricane" that they are so worried about.

In this section I began to question Koenig's credibility a little. I begin to question it because after only running through this route one time she assumes that odds are it can be done. Although her trial of the courts timeline proved it could be done I wish that she would have tested it multiple times. Coming from a High School with the same amount of students and a terrible parking lot I know how the time of getting out can vary a ton. I just think that it would have helped her credibility more and possibly even Agnan to have a few more test runs. Her trial could have been a complete outlier.
While reading through the end of the transcript of episode three where Sarah comes to a close, I began to notice how she uses many of the set ups we have seen in the book They Say, I Say. She uses a format that makes us see why each outcome could be possible by agreeing and disagreeing with the information she has found. She voices two opinions that point our thought process in two separate directions. Although she agrees and disagrees she makes valid and clearly stated reasons so that she easily communicates to her readers. I have linked some of the templates from They Say, I Say to give a visual of the set up that Sarah used.
