In chapter two Chris speaks about marriage with Bessie. The most significant point I will make is his farewells and his tone. In almost every letter Chris tells Bessie he loves her before he ends his letter. In every single letter Chris expresses his genuine interest love and passion for Bessie. He uses words like “my dearest” or “my love” or “my Bessie” or “my girl” and saying “I love you”. In every letter you can feel how much he cared and loved Bessie. The couple were planning marriage. But there were going to be challenges like not being able to actually see each other, bombs, enemy capture, illness, comical misunderstandings, disapproval from friends, fear of the censor. Bessie and Chris would have to account for every possible hardship in pursuing their relationship.
