    1. Executives’ job descriptions are changing under their feet, requiring skills in handling not only a global health crisis but also issues of racial equity.

      Not only are we seeing non-profit organizations bolstering their staffs with departments that are focused on EDI, but there is a growing trend among commercial arts organizations as well - the adding of EDI positions as well as human resources departments to both the Broadway productions of Moulin Rouge and Hamilton leap to mind. It's exciting and exhilarating to see arts organizations walking the walk and not just talking the talk in their efforts to change the paradigm of how things are done, and ideas of what might just be possible and achievable.

      Also, from an entirely different angle, the converging crises of last summer make it even clearer how important it is for arts leaders to be versed in emergency / disaster management and planning.

      All told, it seems ever more apparent that the hyphenate reigns supreme.

      A sentiment I share deeply, but also another major quagmire for arts organizations, especially those that are focused on live performance. What will the audiences look like when venues re-open this month? How large is the appetite for a communal experience vs the risks inherent in large indoor gatherings? Would we all feel comfortable going to a Broadway show next week?
