    1. hundred and twenty-one complaints of police brutality got filed,

I think this story is confirms and demonstrates that police brutality is nothing new but rather a reoccurring issue in the city and across the nation. It’s also interesting to hear the way police brutality was dismissed back then compared to how police get away with brutality today.

    1. and health) are the privileged situses for power ’games’.

I think I can understand how health education can be used as vessels for “power games” . If you control education you have power because you have control of the extent of knowledge people receive. If you control health ultimately you’ll have control over people’s bodies.

    2. First, control over knowledge and information decides who holds power

I would slightly disagree with this statement. I understand how someone with knowledge can have power over a society. If you have knowledge that the majority of people do t that can possibly give you an advantage. But I think people who have a lot of money are the ones that posses a lot of power in society. Money gives you the liberty to do almost whatever you please. If you have money people generally won’t find reasoning to stop you from doing what it is you want to do.

    1. higher education as aright that could be claimed

I find this surprising considering how higher education today isn’t seen as a right but rather something you need to earn or prove you are worthy of receiving through essays, test, grades, etc. I wonder what were their reasoning for believing higher education was a right and what changed.

    2. demand more black and Puerto Rican faculty,

I wonder what gave students feel the need to protest in demand of these things. Was the school not admitting any African and Puerto Rican people? If so who were the people protesting that they be admitted? I also find the fact that they protested for a student council interesting. It makes me wonder what services they believed they did not have but could be provided by a student council.

    1. New York City’s problems are part of a larger trend. In almost all of theolder manufacturing cities

The fact that New York City was facing this fiscal crisis shows that the city isn't this glamorized version that most people outside of the city think of it as. The city may have a lot of opportunities but along with all those opportunities come many issues.

    2. From this view it is clear thatNew York ’s per capita expenditures were not out of line

considering these statistics I find difficult to understand why New York Cities fiscal crisis stands out and why the population received it so dramatically. These statistics also make it clear that people are trying to locate the issue of the fiscal crisis where its not present

    1. that theyare here for government handouts rather than to work; and that their ori-gins in non-Western cultures are poor preparation for American life

For old immigrants that found it incredibly had to work extremely hard to make a living when first coming to the U.S. and took a while to develop a stable life in the country have most difficulty with new immigrants for this reason. In my experience when talking to old immigrants, they really dont like the face that these new immigrants come to the country knowing they will receive a roof over their head and food on their plate for a long time without working for it.

    2. The literature alone is copious. New York’s Italian immigrants havebeen immortalized in novels like The Godfather and Christ in Concrete, whilethe successes—and angst—of Jewish immigrant

Now that the text mentions it, I realize that the statement is very true with the abundance of films that revolve around Italian immigrants such " A Bronx Tale". I could understand why because these immigrants characters are fascinating and unique to say the least. But so are many other different immigrants. I wonder why it is not as iconic to create films about hispanic, black, or asian immigrants?
