      Wow. I was thinking that the people sailing on the oceans only problem was motion sickness. I never thought it was this bad. They barely get sleep (no sleep at all) and have to continue using their brain 24/7 with no break. So many things going on in Nainoa's head (mind), & body but yet there is really nothing he can do since he's stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean.

    2. I think it is s crazy on how they had to use very sense of their human bodies in order to find their way home. They did not have the waterproof technology like we have now to take & sail the ocean. I also like the way he mentioned "For us this canoe is our way of understanding the people of the old". To me "the old" meaning our kupuna.

      This basically says that Hawai'i benefits off of the "ka poe pono mai na aina Haole mai" (the righteouss people from the Haole countries). It is now called tourism and we rely on them in order for Hawai'i to make money.

      Now a days geography doesn't seem that important as it did in the 1800's in Hawai'i. I feel like ever year school subjects get less and less important. Instead of the students actually wanting to learn they are more focused on their grades.

      David himself forced schools who were shifting school systems to industrial education to replace Hawaiian with English as their language to learn. Sadly, these same forces overthrew Queen Lili'uokalani. After this act the children in school were denied their own use of Hawaiian language. It's crazy how we are still dealing with this exact same problem today.
