    1. district level policies that prohibit the use of these tools in classroom contexts.

I think with all of the pressures on elementary teachers to fit in so many subjects among other district initiatives throughout the year, why not teach teachers how to properly use GenAI and allow them to assist with teaching subjects/topics they may not feel as knowledgable on?

    2. stymied

stymied: prevent or hinder the progress of

    3. For instance, in a writing assignment the teacher may ask a student to use GenAI to create a first draft then annotate the draft to identify the strengths and weaknesses of GenAI’s response.

I like this idea - or to differentiate, you could do the opposite? Perhaps have a struggling student give their best effort to get their ideas down on paper and then allow them to utilize GenAI to edit and revise.

    4. a “smart, drunk intern” (Mishra, Citation2023).

      haha

    5. What this means is that it is easier to believe and act as if LLM’s are psychological beings than to consider them machines.

To me, I can relate this to the effects that regular social media use has on some people, where they develop an addiction or fictional relationship with people online, or live in a fantasy world. And this is one of the scary sides of social media use.

    6. anthropomorphize

anthropomorphize: attribute human characteristics or behaviour to (a god, animal, or object)

    7. Their generative nature can be best understood by seeing that even the same, identical prompts generate different results each time.

THIS! This is what I find so interesting about lets say, ChatGPT. This is the part that makes me wonder how they'll ever be able to identify plagiarism via the use of GenAI.

    8. a future for which we are responsible and committed to prepare our students for.

Yes! So often we hear that we are preparing kids to be 21st Century learners and so much of that lends its way to technology so the way I see it, is this is just part of it.

    9. Ameliorating

ameliorating: make (something bad or unsatisfactory) better.

    10. Perhaps one of the most immediately visible benefits of GenAI tools are their ability to produce and revise text, allowing learners to focus on the development and expression of ideas rather than the mechanics of writing.

Yes! I have heard of colleagues using AI not to write their paper for them, but simply to revise. I haven't thought deeply about it, but I don't think there is anything wrong with this.

    11. equity in its accessibility,

this has always been a challenge with the umbrella term of 'technology'. If a student doesn't have access to technology, of course they won't have access to AI. But I understand.

    13. As a result, the framework has become a staple component of teacher education courses and teacher professional development programs.

Granted I went to college in Florida, this is the first I have ever heard of this acronym?

    14. amalgam

      amalgam: a mixture or blend

    15. Our goal is to develop a better understanding of the nature of GenAI technologies and provide guidance to teachers and teacher educators on their productive use for learning.

      Great!

    16. Educators have been receiving mixed messages, and, not suprisingly, there is a great deal of uncertainty about what these technologies mean for teacher practice, teacher education, and student learning.

I wonder what the decision will be. I remember as a kid learning how to find valid sources, cite information I found online, and about the dangers of plagiarism - I think we (educators) should not 'ban' the use of it or scare kids away from it, but teach them how to use it appropriately. When you make something forbidden, it becomes more desirable.
