The quote has a simple meaning, but it makes us really think. We are born original. We have a whole future ahead, a clean slate. We can do whatever we want and establish ourselves in whatever way we deem fit, in a way makes us happy. Along the way, we get influenced; parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, even people we don’t like play a role in shaping our personalities, our identities. We die copies because we are so caught up, so determined to always be “happy" by doing what might make OTHERS happy but not necessarily ourselves. Along the way, we lose sight of our own true selves and, thus, slowly transition into becoming someone else. How many times do we say to ourselves “I can’t believe i just did that!” or “Wow that is so unlike me.” We know deep inside that that isn’t who we are, yet we are so heavily influenced by society that we slowly become strangers, even to ourselves.
