    1. “Tensions are rising across Tunisia,” Hamza Meddeb, of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, said. “We’re seeing the beginning of citizen militias and an angry public attacking the migrants. Something’s going to give … it’s inevitable. Tunisia has basically become a trap for migrants,” he said.

      Tunisia

    2. Tunisia: The migration trapRefugees and migrants from across Africa are becoming stranded, unable to return and persecuted by authorities.

    1. I thus propose that we read the fetishised concept of “the West” as an ideological commodity and civilisational mantra invented during the European Enlightenment, serving as an epicentre for the rise of globalised capitalist modernity.

This is a useful definition of the West.

    1. n California, a black security guard was brutalized and arrested by two white Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies - out of their jurisdiction - while he was walking with a friend; he was so brutally beaten by the cops, one of whom repeatedly held a gun to his head while screaming "I'm going to blow your fucking brains out," that he will likely lose an eye, yet he is facing a charge of assault on a police officer. Etc.

This is another disturbing charge against a person who is the victim: Police brutality must stop.

    1. She talks about the need white people sometimes have to make their non-racism visible, giving the example of someone who takes a “selfie” at a protest to post on Facebook.

Non-racism is not the same as fighting racism.

    2. Whiteness—like all racial categories—is a social construct: Its meaning is culturally and historically contextual. The physical characteristics we now associate with whiteness have been artificially linked to power and privilege for the purpose of maintaining an unjust social hierarchy.

Whiteness has history and this history is not know to many white people., never mind people of colour.

    3. while it’s true whiteness is seen as a social default, it is not true that whiteness is the absence of race or culture. As one male participant in The Whiteness Project puts it, “As a white person, I wish I had that feeling of being a part of something for being white, but I don’t.”

This is such a bullshit explanation and I have heard it too many times from all sort of people who are White. White people's culture is made of the Eurocentric Western cultural elements that inform life in North America, to say the least. There is a culture, but this culture is not identified as such. We cannot say that we have a Black culture or indigenous culture. Whiteness is not a culture in a sense of knowledge about one's environment, socially, culturally, economically. There is not real connection between White people and their Whiteness fades away in the context tof Whiteness. .

    4. potential to stimulate meaningful conversations about whiteness and move white folks past emotions like defensiveness, denial, guilt and shame

This is what I hear, mainly because of the language that we use. I am generally against "making" white people see that they live a racialized lives. They need to live the racialized life as not a racialized person, but as a non-racialized person.

    5. It’s impossible to see the privilege and dominance associated with white racial identity without acknowledging that whiteness is a racial identity

Whiteness as both identity and power.

    1. Fifteen Black former or current employees at Tesla filed a lawsuit against the electric-car maker on Thursday, alleging they were subjected to racial abuse and harassment at its factories.

Discrimination against black people has mental and emotional pain and ups and downs that can affect the overall well-being of people.

    1. “There has been an expansion of the salmon-farming industry, which is releasing chemicals and antibiotics into the sea,” Caniullan said. “It is causing an ecological disaster and we are seeing a decrease in marine wildlife.

Overproduction here implies fish-farming and their disastrous chemicals and science that they use to produce food without an ounce of concern for nature and animals.

    2. Suzanne Njeri, from Kenya, vice-president of the African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network, which has members from 44 out of 54 African countries, said coastal fishing communities needed “a seat at the table” and were too often sidelined.“We want policymakers to talk with us, not for us,” said Njeri. “We see the damage to the fish breeding grounds. We are the ones who fight malnutrition. We need more practitioners here to tell their stories.”

I have read and heard so many times about the exclusion of the actual players and citizens of this world that climate crisis is affecting the most. Their concerns and their issues that reflect the knowledge of the environment and how the natural system is changing as a result of over-fishing and over production.

    1. Meanwhile, in Ghana, where a defense cooperation agreement was signed between the two countries in May 2018, the United States had initially said that it was merely creating a warehouse and an office for its military, which then turned out to mean that the United States military was taking charge of one of the three airport terminals at Accra airport and has since used it as its base of operations in West Africa. “From the experience of Ghana, we know what it is,” M’membe told me, while speaking about the American plan to make an office in the U.S. Embassy in Zambia. “It is not [very] different from a base. It will slowly but surely grow into a full-scale base.”

They already have a base in Ghana, as the base to monitor other African countries and social movements. US imperialism and other forms of oppressive regimes are all gearing up to divide Africa between themselves. The violence of taking over resources will have negative consequences of the well-being of an already fragile population in places like Congo.

    1. John Logan, a professor and director of labor and employment studies at San Francisco State University, also pointed to that campaign in a recent op-ed at Jacobin in which he described Starbucks as worthy of the title "worst worker rights violator."Contributing to the "union-busting lawlessness," wrote Logan, is the company's firing of over 20 union activists and announcement of a benefit increase to stores that have not unionized.

Union busting often involved violence, because the labour movement is not as militant as it used to be. These are everyday workers whose conception of militancy is not the same as industrial workers. It has taken a long time since the 1980s for Unions to realize that the future of their membership is in part-time and service sectors jobs.

    1. Impact of Israeli strike in Gaza akin to chemical weapons, NGO report finds

This is not war crime, but it works in this manner. This was a justification to affect agricultural production in order to make life more difficult for the residents of Palestine.
