A caveat of this study, as of other studies that seek to assess TE insertion polymorphisms with short reads, is that the rates of false negatives and false positives are difficult to estimate, which may have major effects on the interpretation. This study will be relevant for anyone interested in the role of TEs in evolution and adaptation.

These findings are potentially valuable insights into the genetic mechanisms regulating sleep under short days. The data supporting the neurobiological basis of these effects is however incomplete.
