OpenAI created a for-profit subsidiary to allow it to fundraise vastly more sums than it believed people would be willing to donate. Today, the nonprofit owns roughly 25 percent, or more than $200 billion, of the company. It also has the power to block major business decisions and fire the company's executives.

Seventy-eight percent of executives say they want to discipline shadow AI use — yet only 21% of workers report ever being warned about AI policy, and 34% don't even know which tools their employer has approved.

Employees still own a surprisingly large 19.35%. SoftBank comes in at 11.66%, followed by VC and institutional investors at 7.83%, Amazon at 4.66%, NVIDIA at 3.47%

Holacracy is a system of corporate governance whereby members of a team or business form distinct, autonomous, yet symbiotic, teams to accomplish tasks and company goals. The concept of a corporate hierarchy is discarded in favor of a fluid organizational structure where employees have the ability to make key decisions within their own area of authority.
