Datesafter ca. 1400 BCE are fairly reliable and uncontroversial (the morerecent, the less controversial). For dates before 1500 BCE, however, adebate revolves around the Middle Chronology. Some scholars proposelower dates (from eight years to as much as a century later). But until aconsensus is reached, it seems best to use the dates that are familiar, ifprobably wrong.

Goutor only mentions two potential organizational patterns for creating output with one's card index: either by chronological order or topical order. (p34) This might be typical for a historian who is likely to be more interested in chronologies and who would have likely noted down dates within their notes.

The two corresponding dates should be given in case ofOld Style and New Style; of French Revolutionary andGregorian calendars; of Mohammedan and Christian eras;etc. Aid in dealing with these problcms may be convenientlyobtained from John J. Bond, ZIandy book of rules and tablesfor verifying dates rhth the Christian era, 4th cd., London,1889. and other treatises on chronology.
This looks like a fascinating reference. Are there newer ones?

book that I'm almost fin-ished writing,
So you know how we talked about how Cixous writes like she's giving a speech and Derrida's essay is actually a lecture script, so he signs it? I love that Anzaldua is writing her essay as though she's speaking from before the point it's published. She situates herself in a very particular and pseudo-impossible time here.
This line is gold.
