    1. Consequently, they cannot verify if tools were actually invoked, applied correctly, or used efficiently.

    1. Historically, AI was a tool

for - quote - AI: from tool b to agent - Roman Yampolskiy

quote - AI: from tool b to agent - Roman Yampolskiy - (see below)

      • Historically, AI was a tool, like any other technology. Whether it was good or bad was up to the user of that tool.
      • You can use a hammer to build a house or kill someone.
      • The hammer is not in any way making decisions about it.
      • With advanced AI, we are switching the paradigm
        • **from tools
        • to agents**.
      • The software becomes capable of making its own decisions, working independently, learning, self-improving, modifying.
      • How do we stay in control?
      • How do we make sure the tool doesn’t become an agent that does something we don’t agree with or don’t support?
      • Maybe something against us

    1. Manila has one of the most dangerous transport systems in the world for women (Thomson Reuters Foundation, 2014). Women in urban areas have been sexually assaulted and harassed while in public transit, be it on a bus, train, at the bus stop or station platform, or on their way to/from transit stops.

The New Urban Agenda and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (5, 11, 16) have included the promotion of safety and inclusiveness in transport systems to track sustainable progress. As part of this effort, AI-powered machine learning applications have been created.

    1. in 2018 you know it was around four percent of papers were based on Foundation models in 2020 90 were and 00:27:13 that number has continued to shoot up into 2023 and at the same time in the non-human domain it's essentially been zero and actually it went up in 2022 because we've 00:27:25 published the first one and the goal here is hey if we can make these kinds of large-scale models for the rest of nature then we should expect a kind of broad scale 00:27:38 acceleration
      • for: accelerating foundation models in non-human communication, non-human communication - anthropogenic impacts, species extinction - AI communication tools, conservation - AI communication tools

      • comment

        • imagine the empathy we can realize to help slow down climate change and species extinction by communicating and listening to the feedback from other species about what they think of our species impacts on their world!

    1. Hal, you have an enormous responsibility on this mission  perhaps the greatest responsibility of any single mission element. You’re the brain and central nervous system of the ship. Your responsibilities include watching over the men in hibernation. Does this ever cause you any lack of confidence?

Hal is given complete control over the ship and everything inside it, even the people. It is in this way that he is beyond that of a tool. He controls, he is not controlled. As portrayed in the film he can kill any of the crew members any time, which he does, and advises the crew members of what they should do. This is perfectly described in "The Technological Singularity" where the authors states that a super-intelligent AI will be as much of a tool to humanity as we are tools to animals.
