tautology is a word we don't use very often.  It doesn't come up in relationship to ecological   processes as often, I think, as it should.

Some would argue that the phrase ''survival of the fittest'' is tautological, in that the fittest are defined as those that survive to reproduce.

Yogi also said that "Half the lies they tell about me aren't true"

"It ain't over 'til it's over,"

"You can observe a lot by watching."

Whether this is the life-cycle of a <user> entity or just a sign-up function, it has to be defined and coded somewhere.

The easy answer is that processing means "everything." It's hard to imagine an action you could take in relation to personal data that wouldn't qualify as "processing" it. But for anyone who really wants to understand their obligations under the law, this answer won't be enough.

In natural languages, some apparent tautologies may have non-tautological meanings in practice. In English, "it is what it is" is used to mean 'there is no way of changing it'.[1] In Tamil, vantaalum varuvaan literally means 'if he comes, he will come', but really means 'he just may come'.[2]

In the context of first-order logic, a distinction is maintained between logical validities, sentences that are true in every model, and tautologies, which are a proper subset of the first-order logical validities.
